I baked a cake shaped like Canada, and offered my brother the Quebec slice, but he’s having Nunavut.

The project that we just finished was called “A Case For A Nation”. We spoke about a lot of different things in this project, but it was all about Canadian history. The main things that I was hopping to do in this project were Louie Riel and overall just something that we haven’t talked about this year. I ended up choosing the topic “French Canadian Culture, something that we have talked about quite a bit this year.

We started this project with something that I really enjoyed. We were instructed to make a “Tik Tok” about Canadian stereotypes with the Tik Tok sound “Canadian Check”. I was put into a group with two others. We made a video of me “Terry Fox running” into someone hugging a tree. I then proceeded to say sorry then the tree hugger (played by Ava) said, “No problem, we have free health care, Eye”. Here’s our video if you want to watch it. Not sure why you would want to.

We then had to chose our topic for the final product of the project. The final product would come to be a instagram post with 3-4 photos and a caption of 100 words describing them. The photos would have to be about some sort of nationalism. I wasn’t sure what topic to chose at first, so I asked my teacher to pick for me. She told me to chose the topic of French Canadian nationalism because she knew that my mom is French Canadian.

So then I proceeded to research everything that I could on French Canadian Culture. I decided to research something specific, their provincial holiday, Saint-Jean Baptiste day. Saint-Jean Baptiste day has always been a big part of my life. Mostly because it takes place on the same day as my birthday. But also sometimes I would be in Quebec at the same time as it would happen. There would be huge parades and fire works going everywhere and as a young king I found that to be very cool.

After we all finished our research we got put into a group with the other people that chose the same topic as us. We then started to make our post captions. In my group there was Brooke, Faith and Declan. They didn’t seem to be interested in Saint-Jena Baptiste day. Even after I showed them the rich backstory of it. But I managed to convince them to let be add a part in the caption about it. There are a lot of things that fall under the umbrella of “French Canadian Nationalism” so it was hard to make the caption only 100 words. Im already at 495 words for this post and not even done.

Then we each had to make three images. One that was drawn of photo shopped, one with a quote and one that was a choice. For my photoshopped image I put some parading silhouettes who’s heads are Quebec flags in front of a black and white photo of old Montreal. For my quote photo I edited a black low opacity screen in front of a photo of a Saint-Jean Baptiste day parade with the quote “My quality of life here in Quebec City is extraordinary” by Patrick Roy. For the choice photo I made a gif/meme remake of the infamous “High Ground” scene from the third star wars movie. I edited the Britain flag onto Obi One Kenobi’s face and the old Quebec flag onto Anakin’s face. Me and my team decided to use my choice image after many people told me that it was great. My teams images are yet to be posted to @historicalperspectives2022 but click here and it will eventually get posted. https://instagram.com/historicalperspectives2022?utm_medium=copy_link

To conclude this blog post I would like to thanks Miss Maxwell for encouraging me to do mine about Quebec nationalism. I would also like to thank Mr. Harris for being a great solo teacher when Miss Maxwell was gone. Also a big thanks to my team members Declan, Faith and Brooke.
