For this past part of the maker class we’ve been doing something called PGP. Or more specifically “believe in good”. The main focus of this project was the book by Sean Covey the 7 habits of an effective teen. Everything that we did during Believe in good was about the book. So I will be talking mostly about that for this blog post. I had learned about the nature of the 7 habits book long before I even entered PLP. My sister is as of now in grade 11 PLP so I heard a lot about PGP and Maker before I even understood what PLP was. My mom even bought me a copy of the book once I got excepted into PLP. However I never started reading it until grade 9.

The way we read the book was in 4 different parts. The set up, the private victory, the public victory and the renewal. Each of them containing different habits. But after finishing one of the four parts of the book, you had to complete an assessment choice board activity and a workbook. This activity could be anything from a podcast episode made by you, to an interpretive dance. But of course the activity had to be about that section of the book. The workbooks would all be pretty similar. Their main purpose was to make you start using the habits in real life. For my first choice board activity I made a playlist about paradigm shifts (which was a big part of the set up). For the second activity I made an animation of a foot ball player going to the bank to get a PBA withdrawal. For the third I drew a picture of a book that has a tree with youtube logos on it. I drew that because the three biggest examples for the three habits that it goes over had those three things. And for the last one I made a podcast episode.

I said before that the main focus of this project was the book, but it wasn’t. There are two main things that we had to learn wile doing this project. How to use technology to construct knowledge, and how to use technology to create and communicate.

I feel like I learned both those things to the maximum of my their capacity’s. My biggest from of proof for that is that I got an extending on almost all of my assessment choice board activities. They were also all made using technology. So I used technology to construct knowledge using my iPad and my podcast making, drawing, animation and playlist making skills. They construct knowledge because they show that I have a great understanding of them. Then I also used technology to create and communicate in my podcast. Because I made the podcast and I communicated clearly my understanding about the topic.

For the final product of this project we were instructed to make three final assessment choice board activities. The only visible difference between these ones is that they would be about communication, thinking and personal and social aspects of the 7 habits. For communication, I chose to put habits 1 and 2 together and make a keynote presentation with examples and visual representations of those habits. For thinking I went in a very different direction. Using the 3rd, 4th and 6th habits I made a rap song. This rap song was about doing homework before playing video games and working together with friends. Then for personal and social I made a video of me doing my workout routine. With habits 5 and 7 this workout routine showed my way of sharpening the saw and in that workout I did one thing that I don’t understand why its beneficial. But ultimately I end up liking it, that shows habit 5 (seek first to understand then to be understood).

When I first got the 7 habits book as a gift from my mom I didn’t think much of it. Little did I know that it would show me a whole different perspective on life. I learned how to appreciate thing more, like my family, my friends and everyone around me.
