I told a mitosis joke in school once, I thought it was hilarious, but the class was divided.

This project we just finished was called meiosis models, and we started it off in a weird way to say the least. We watched the one of the episodes of the 2011 show called the life’s greatest miracle. Earlier in the year I watched a sex ed video un gym class but I didn’t think that weed start off a project with a video similar to it. Thankfully

the project didn’t involve the video a whole lot.

After we watched the video we got introduced to the project as a whole and it seemed pretty interesting. I had never learned about meiosis and mitosis and was curious to what it was, and I showed that curiosity in my project start mind map.

Then we got re introduced to something that we haven’t used since grade 8, Tinker Cad. This program can be used as a website or a app and is used to do some pretty cool things. With tinker cad you can make 3D models of different things using prefab shapes or you can draw your own. Last year I used it to make a model of an Alienwear gaming Pc, but this year we were going to use it to make 3D models of the processes of Mitosis and Meiosis. But before doing that we had to learn about them, and to do so we used textbook and workbook pages. Which isn’t super exciting but you learn lots from completing them. Then of course after that we had to re learn how to use tinker cad since it’s been such a long time.

Soon after that we started modelling the mitosis models since it’s a shorter process we started with it. It took me a while to get used to it again because it’s horrible to use on iPad, but I got the hang of it and they turned out pretty good. Same thing with my meiosis models which was a lot of repetition from the mitosis models.

In PLP we don’t have many tests, its something that we do rarely but when we do it is online. Web sites like kahoot, quizzez and khan academy are all used in class a couple times. But in scimatics it is usually khan academy. We have a small test on it almost every project and it is usually very informative.

Then the final product of the project started up. I didn’t say before but it is a video talking about meiosis and mitosis, what they are, why it happens, the differences and the similarities. Also earlier in the project we did a lab where we examined a cell to see if we could find mitosis inside it. And we had to add photos of that and the mitosis and meiosis models. Here is the video

Now time for the curricular competencies, something we go over in every blog post as kind of a self assessment of how we did in the project.

In conclusions, I always say things along the ens of this but I really enjoyed this project. It was a lot of fun doing it with my friends Alfie sitting beside me and ines sitting behind me. Also I hope they don’t change the project next year for the grade 8’s.
