Music, Week 5

Welcome back to another self-imposed blog post. This week we have been assigned to do a post about music. We turn to the sheet for more details,

So as I have been challenged to do this by myself, and also forgot to officially sign up, I have established a rule of chaos. The rule states;

With this in mind, I have chosen the sub-challenge 3,4, and 8. The rest of them sounded moderately dull, (no offence,) so these 3 are the ones that you will read about momentarily. Well, actually now.

Challenge 1/3, Tell Us About An Instrument:

Recently, I had a lapse in my judgment and a mild breakdown and bought a electric piano off of a strange man on Facebook Marketplace. My dear Papa and I drove a 2 hour round trip to meet the man who would sell me a potentially functioning piano.

As we were driving through the Swiss rolling hills and listening to strange self help audiobooks, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. What was it? A RAINBOW. This must be a good sign I thought and then contemplated real life foreshadowing.

We arrived 6 minutes early and met with a man who shall be referenced from now on as Paul. Paul spoke no English and my Dad did his best to speak in English with a slightly offensive French accent. He snatched the 40 Francs out of my hand and gave me a firm handshake. Then we got the HECK outa there as fast as possible.

We came home and there it was. I took a good look at it and only then the realization set in that I now owned a piano. I took a deep breath and then plugged it in. “Oh no” I thought, it played the wrong sounds on the wrong keys.

Later that week just as I walked through the door, my mum said something along the lines of “ITS WORKING!”

I ran upstairs and started playing the one song I previously learned, but this time on the right keys. I was thrilled to finally be using it and couldn’t wait to continue.

Now I would love to say that I am a natural born musician but alas, I am but an annoying rat-human with realistic emotions and terrible priorities.  I do my best to find time to practice but it’s difficult with my long list of things I’d rather be doing to escape the fact that I am living in a country where I can barely speak the language.

Challenge 2/4: Research An Artist Or Group

Naturally for this next challenge, I chose Rick Astley. (Note; this choice was closely followed by Dolly Parton. She has accomplished too much and summarizing her life would be deeply disrespectful.)

Researching this mans life was no easy feat. I used three pages and referenced this page while completing the next assignment.

I conducted very concise research and I feel confident that I now know Rick Astley’s life. Here’s my creation to illustrate the most important points in his life:

Challenge 3/8: Make Some Music

So with my newly gained piano and knowledge of Mr. Astley, lets make some music shall we?

Feel free to play along with the following video.

Challenge 4/?: Go Crazy, Go Stoopid

NOW lets incorporate the previous challenges into one caffeine-fuelled-YouTube-video that no one asked for. Here’s the final product:

Now, I hope you enjoyed this video and I’m so sorry once again.

The End
