Mid-Year Presentation Of Learning 2023 šŸ˜±

Itā€™s the moment that weā€™ve been dreading: itā€™s mPOL time. Twice a year we have Presentations of Learning. Itā€™s basically Halloween if it was 12 minutes and way scarier. We have to talk to a teacher about our work and learning so far this year.Ā  But, I only have to talk to them for 12 minutes, so hopefully it will be fine.
ā€œā€˜Nervous?ā€™ ā€˜Yesā€™ ā€˜First time?ā€™ ā€˜No, Iā€™ve been nervous lots of times.ā€™ā€ – Robert Hays, AirplaneĀ

First, I will make my declaration of learning.

ā€œMr./Ms. (teacherā€™s name), this is my mother and father Ang and Mike. Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.ā€

Or something along those lines.

Now, Iā€™m going to do a small section on each my subjects so I can have a rough idea of what to say.

HumanitiesĀ

So far in Humanities, Iā€™ve done three projects: From The Outside(rs) Looking In, Power Play, and Radical Inventions. So far, I think my favourite and my best project was Power Play. It was interesting to learn about life in the Middle Ages and the Crusades and it was fun making the Keynotes. Ā

The most difficult project for me was from The Outside(rs) Looking In. I wasnā€™t used to the PLP program and it was an opportunity to grow as a learner. You can see my growth in Showbie how, at the beginning of the year, I got more revisions on my work than now. Now I can better understand the type of work that PLP is looking for.

First Keystone in The OutsidersĀ

Third Keystone in The OutsidersĀ

In Radical Innovations, we had to make a triptych. If you donā€™t know what a triptych is, look it up. Anyways, my triptych was going to be about music in the Renaissance. On a sketch of what I was going to do, I got a revision. This made me worried that if that wasnā€™t good, then my triptych wasnā€™t going to be either, and I would have to redo the whole project. But I did the triptych, and it was fine. In the future, I hope to form strategies to help me not panic over fairly small stuff.

Maker

In Maker I have completed 4 projects: Becoming A PLP Learner, Making Interesting Images, Geek Out, and Pandoraā€™s Box. The project I am most proud of is my Pandoraā€™s Box. I am happy with the product and think I did a good job on it. However, this was also the hardest project because I had to ask for help more than Iā€™d like to (the amount Iā€™d like to is zero). I had to ask for yellow paint once and black paint twice and that was scary, but I think it was good practice if I have to ask for help in the future. I also had to troubleshoot some problems, like the original moss I bought wasnā€™t good moss for the tree. The flames were also a last minute addition and I had to find a way to light them up. I ended upĀ  using fake candles to make flickering flames.

Ā

I donā€™t really have a Maker project that I am disappointed with the outcome so far, but one I did get discouraged on was my Geek Out blog post. I had spent all weekend working on a 5000+ word blogpost about horror and true crime, but I had to shorten it to 2100 words. However, I think even with less words itā€™s still good. Ā

Disposition, Habits and SystemsĀ

I try to approach every project with an open mind. Even if Iā€™ve done a unit on it before and I didnā€™t like it, I will try to not be biased and go into it with an opened mind. A strategy that I use is getting someone to review my work. On almost all my blog posts, I get my mom to check them over. Another habit that Iā€™m trying to use more often is using the app Things. Both these habits and strategies help me complete work to the best of my ability. Ā

My Core Competency ProfileĀ

For Communicating I think that profile 2 still fits me well because I feel much more comfortable talking with people I know. For Creative Thinking I develop my best work with things Iā€™m interested in, so #6 fits me well too. For Personal Awareness and Responsibility, I think that profile 2 fits me well because I know that I play a role in my wellbeing. In Collaborating, I choose profile 3. While I donā€™t always contribute too well in group activities, I try my best. I think Critical and Reflective thinking 5 is good because when I do my work, I can understand multiple perspectives of different groups of people. For Personal and Cultural Identity, I put profile 3 because I can describe different aspects of myself. And finally, for Social Awareness and Responsibility, I put profile 2, but I donā€™t think itā€™s quite accurate. I usually am respectful to people and places all the time, not just in a familiar place.

How could I grow as a learner

I think I could grow as a learner by asking for help when I need it. Often I donā€™t ask for help and end up doing something wrong. I should probably also read the instructions three times because sometimes I misunderstand what they mean. I know I could share my ideas with the group more. Often times I have ideas, but I donā€™t say them in case people donā€™t like them. An example of this was in the Winter Exhibition planning. When nobody was talking in my group, I could have shared my ideas.

Alright, thats the end of my blog post, bye bye!
