“From unforgettable adventures to hilarious moments with friends, join me as I take you on a virtual journey through our epic school trip, captured in story telling and videography!”

In Maker 9, we started off the new school year with our annual PLP trip. This year we took a road trip to Alberta. We visited many beautiful towns along the way that I thought really represented Canada. While we were on our trip, we learned about geography, the history and development of the West, and the connection between these two subjects. Our task was to soak up as much information as we could while we were surrounded by it, and use that information to create tree videos supporting the driving question. “How might I use the moving image to tell a story?”  We also had to create an At Home Video once we got back from our trip. Here are my four videos that I put together…

Silent Video: The Love Square

Me and three other friends filmed this video at Three Valley Gap. I am proud of how this video turned out. I think that my video met the criteria well but there where some things that we could have improved on as a group. Firstly, I think we should’ve made the plot a little more clear. For someone who didn’t know the back story, it might have been a bit hard to understand at parts. Secondly, I was also only shown a few times in the Silent Video. Next time we could’ve split up the roles more evenly. From this experience, I learned how to express myself without using words or sounds, and only using exaggerated body movements. Overall, I really enjoyed creating this video.

TikTok Style Video: Can We Skip To The Good Part

For this video, our task was to find a TikTok trend off of the internet, and re-create it in our own way. This was really fun because we had so much freedom. This video taught me how to think for myself. I had to pay attention when I saw something on my trip to photograph and add into my TikTok. Since there where no teachers to tell me what to do, I had to focus and remind myself constantly.

Investigative Video: Interviews

On our trip we were asked to interview random people that we saw along the way. This helped us get others perspectives on my theses that I made, “People come to the west to see the incredible natural environment and significant history within its borders.” My investigative video was probably the most difficult video of all for me. I had to revise it once because I didn’t find the directions clear the first time it was introduced to me. Once I got revised, I fixed it so that I was meeting the expectation.  Now, I am proud of my final result.

At Home Video: What Inspires me

Once we got back from our trip, we focused on creating an at home video which is basically a collection of photos and videos with a voice over of me, describing what inspires me. This video really taught me about myself, my family and friends. I am super grateful for both of them. I realize, that they helped me be the person that I am today.

Conclusion:

Over all, from these four videos, I learned how to express myself in different ways. One of my most favorite things I do in PLP is photography. This helped me improved my videography and photography skills.
