From the moment I stepped foot at the retreat, I knew that I was about to embark on a journey that I could grow as a learned and overall connect with my peers.
From the experience, I was able to answer the driving question which was, How do the choices we make set our future path? as well as learn many other life skills. Some common ones include teamwork, communication, problem-solving, leadership, and building relationships.
From the day we got there, we immediately began various team-building activities including climbing on the rock wall, doing archery, balancing across ropes 50 feet in the air, and simply listening to Jono, the main facilitator of the camp about various topics mostly including improving as a person. While we where there, Jono gave us duo-tangs that had many different prompts which helped me express myself.
How has this experience affected me as a learner?:
This experience very positively impacted me as a learner! It provided a chance to bond with my classmates, learn in a different environment and develop new skills. All of these team-building activities and workshops, gave many opportunities for personal growth. When I got back to class, I felt that the trip really payed off as much as I feel closer and more connected with the people I am working with at school for many hours a day.
One of my highlights of our retreat was the opportunity to participate and engage in outdoor activities. These experiences not only allowed us to appreciate the beauty of where we live and the pure forest and nature we are surrounded by, but also taught us the importance of mindfulness and being present in the moment.
Conclusion:
Overall, our Loon Lake retreat was a super fun and memorable experience that brought our class closer together and allowed us to discover new aspects of ourselves. As we left the camp, my teacher asked me to think of a goal that I want to bring back to school and work on. I chose to work on being a stronger and more confident leader, whether it would be during group projects or class discutions, I thing that this is an area I could grow as a learner.
Thank you!
