Welcome to another blog post, as you probably know by now, I am Aiya and I am hear to share my awesome school projects with the world! Our latest project we have done in Maker or (PGP) they call it, is “Atomic Habits”. That name might be familiar to some people from the title of the book Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Well, I have read that book and studied it for a number of weeks with the rest of my class. This book was quite interesting at times but I also thought this book was quite repetitive at times though the book has taught me a lot too. The key points of have taken away from that book are:

  • The Power of Small Habits (Small changes can lead up to big transformations over time.)
  • The Four Laws of Behaviour Change

Cue (make it obvious)

Craving (make it attractive)

Response (make it easy)

Reward (make it satisfying)

  • Environment Design (Shaping your environment to make good habits easier and bad habits harder.)

The driving question:

“How can small changes in my habits shape my success this year, and beyond?”

My answer to that is, Small changes in my habits can lead to big success over time as they add up day by day. By making tiny improvements, I can build steady progress that grows throughout the year and ultimately lead to a big transformation. James Clear talks about shaping your environment and focusing on who you want to become and what to do in order to are that happen, not just what I want to become. With small, consistent changes, I can make steady progress toward my goals and create lasting success.

In order for me to active this final answer to the driving question I went thought many different stages (keystones).

Artifact Pitch:

To start of the project we got assigned to fill out an “Artifact Pitch Form” which is essentially just pitching your own creative and unique idea for your very own artifact. I decided i wanted to create a customized calendar.

Intentions Pop Art + Statement:

Our next task was to make our own piece of pop art that represents your personal learning intentions for the year. We made this only using sketch up. To make this, you start by taking a photo of yourself and editing it to make it black and white. Then, you colour in the back ground and anything else you want to add colour too. Then you sketch back the details in pen. And then few a white outline around you. One your done that, design and sketch your drawings that relate to my own leaning intentions. This was the finished result.

Chapter Test:

While we were working on our keystones throughout the project, we were also reading Atomic Habits. Every week or so, we had a chapter test or quiz on various platforms like; Quizziz, Kahoot or simply on paper. I wasn’t a big fan of these because I either wasn’t prepared or wasn’t up to date on what chapter we were supposed o read to. Overall I would say I did okay though.

Final Artifact:

Once all our keystones came together we finally got to get going on making out final artifact!  I made mine on canva and then eventually printed it out and filled it in. This is he final result (plus every other mont

We actually got to showcase this to our parents at the pre POL. To explain it in more detail I wrote this to go with it.

In conclusion, the “Atomic Habits” project has been a valuable learning experience for me. Through studying the book by James Clear, I have learned the power of small habits and how they can lead to big transformations over time. For the most part this project was enjoyable for me and conveyed in a way that makes sense to me. Overall this project reminded me of the importance of habit tracking. This book has changed my view on habits in general.
