For my second blog post around the topic of World War One, our goal was to create an argument how WWI actually began. There is a ton of different ways people say WWI started but I believe there is only one that is correct, and that is that the alliances were what caused this major breakout of war.
In class we learned about all the ways people thought the war had started, and from that we had to choose which one we believed to be correct. The alliance system was defiantly the cause of WWI because of all its internal conflicts/ allies with other countries. So when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated it started as a small conflict that could have not been anything too important but due to all the alliances between countries, this small event pulled one country after another into a World War.
To show my learning this time, instead of doing an Explain Everything like I always do, Ms Willemse challenged us to do something different. So if we did a video the first one she wanted to see something different. After a long time of contemplating what I wanted to do, my lovely mother suggested a newspaper article, and that is exactly what I did. I decided to write this newspaper as if it was published directly after the war had ended.
It wasn’t super difficult for me to write this article because of all the background information I had learned in class previously. I still had to look up quite a bit to fully wrap my head around some things, but usually I had the general idea. First I had to come up with my thesis which took me a while. Ms Willemse was stressing us to create a well written, easy to understand, thorough thesis. After what felt like 10 million revisions I final got mine approved. Along with our thesis, we had to submit supporting points we were going to use to prove our point.
Secondly I had to find a news paper article template… This is a lot harder then it sounds. I looked and look to find one that I liked and actually ended up starting making my newspaper on one, but switch because I didn’t like the format to much and it was really hard to control and save. After more searching I found a template on google docs, which was perfect because I know how to work google docs, and it is easy to save.
Last it was time to put everything together! I added photos and actual accounts from people who fought in WWI to make it seem for like it was from the time. So finally I hope you enjoy, and learn something!
