Water Bears

So, a while back I read a news article about the toughest animal on earth, these little animals called water bears, and it really interested me, so I decided to write a little summary of what they are.

Water bears, or Tardigrades, have tiny barrel shaped bodies with stubby legs. They grow to about 0.5 millimetres long, although some can reach up to 1.2 millimeters. They live everywhere on earth, usually on moss, on beaches, soil, or dunes, but have also been found in pretty much any place on earth you can think of.

The reason they are found everywhere, and are the “toughest animal on earth”, is because of their ability to drain all water content from their bodies using sugars, turning into a hard shell known as a tun. In this state they can survive temperature close to absolute zero (as cold as it gets), temperatures up to 150 degrees Celsius, pressures six times greater than the deepest ocean trench, radiation hundreds of times the lethal dose for humans, and the vacuum of space. They also don’t age in this state, making their lifespan up to ten billion years. They have also been confirmed to have survived major catalysts, like the meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs.

There you have it, the water bear, the toughest creature on earth, a little speck on a leaf.

Emoji Story

🕳😫🚑😷😭🤕🕰😄🤔🦠🤮💊😐

Basically, the story is that someone fell down a hole and got hurt, so then the ambulance came and they had to do a surgery. It really hurt but the surgery helped, and after a while they were completely fine. But then he started feeling wierd, and apparently his wound had become infected and he started throwing up so he had to take medicine and then he was cured. That’s just my interpretation, maybe you could come up with your own story using these emojis.

Deep Cove Ad Reflection

We finished our Deep Cove advertising unit! Well, for a start making an ad that actually looks good is pretty hard. And not just making the ad but getting all the resources you need to make the ad good. For me, that was the main challenge (darn you copyright laws!). I definitely think I learned how to make a good ad during class and the pound and grain field trip, but I think the main reason my ad kind of sucked was because of the photos.

So, first I found a really good photo of a little girl playing a guitar and used it in my ad. “No!” said the big book of laws and rules and stuff. “That’s copyright infringement!”. So I got permission to take a picture of my neighbours daughter. It didn’t really work out, but for my credit do you know how hard it is to get a good photo of a five year old girl? By this point I didn’t know what else to do so I took a picture of my brother which also didn’t really work. And pictures are an important part of pathos ads so it’s not like it didn’t matter. I had an okay slogan, but everything else looked amateurish.

So, was my ad a masterpiece of design? Definitely not. But did I learn? Yes! I learned so much that I’m going to write a whole list of things I can take in mind when making my Oregon business ad. So, I definitely learned that copyright laws are unforgiving and to always check if you can use an image! Always refine your images in Snapseed or SuperimposeX, and make sure your text is readable! Also, don’t just worry about one thing, I was worrying about the image the whole time when I could’ve been improving the font and text. So, that’s a couple of things I should probably take in mind when making my Oregon business ad.

About Me

Hi! My name is Anthony, I live in North Vancouver, in British Columbia. I like to do lots of different things in my free time, but some of my hobbies are building models and playing hockey, but I also really like reading, especially about sci-fi stuff like Star Wars, Halo, and Warhammer 40k. As you can see by my posts, this blog is mostly about my learning journey within the PLP program, but I have some personal posts as well. The photo below is my avatar, which I wrote a post about if you want to check it out!

Anthony’s avatar family

I made some avatars of my family: The first one is my Dad. He likes to build stuff like model, and then paint them. The second one is my brother, Daniel. He likes to play with lego and run around, and be a general eight year old brother. Last but not least is my Mom. She likes to cook and (try) to play board games.
