We finished our Deep Cove advertising unit! Well, for a start making an ad that actually looks good is pretty hard. And not just making the ad but getting all the resources you need to make the ad good. For me, that was the main challenge (darn you copyright laws!). I definitely think I learned how to make a good ad during class and the pound and grain field trip, but I think the main reason my ad kind of sucked was because of the photos.
So, first I found a really good photo of a little girl playing a guitar and used it in my ad. “No!” said the big book of laws and rules and stuff. “That’s copyright infringement!”. So I got permission to take a picture of my neighbours daughter. It didn’t really work out, but for my credit do you know how hard it is to get a good photo of a five year old girl? By this point I didn’t know what else to do so I took a picture of my brother which also didn’t really work. And pictures are an important part of pathos ads so it’s not like it didn’t matter. I had an okay slogan, but everything else looked amateurish.
So, was my ad a masterpiece of design? Definitely not. But did I learn? Yes! I learned so much that I’m going to write a whole list of things I can take in mind when making my Oregon business ad. So, I definitely learned that copyright laws are unforgiving and to always check if you can use an image! Always refine your images in Snapseed or SuperimposeX, and make sure your text is readable! Also, don’t just worry about one thing, I was worrying about the image the whole time when I could’ve been improving the font and text. So, that’s a couple of things I should probably take in mind when making my Oregon business ad.
