Week Eight Challenges

For the week eight challenges I decided to do the festive games activity. The holiday game I’m going to review is the Google ghost game that came out around halloween this year. It’s a simple browser game, but that doesn’t stop it from being really fun! The concept of the game is you are a ghost, and you have to collect spirits with your three teammates. There is an enemy team however, and you have to get more spirits into your end zone than they can. You can also steal the enemy team’s spirits before they get them to their end zone, but watch out because they can do the same to you! I think it’s a really fun game to do in your spare time, and you can host a game and play with a group of friends if you want! Here’s a link, https://www.google.com/logos/2018/halloween18/rc3/halloween18.html?hl=en, I definitely recommend trying it out, and I hope you have fun with it!

Awesome Images Self Portrait Learning post

The next project we had on awesome images was based on portraits. We had to several activities based on portraits, the first being to take a portrait of someone else. I did one of my little brother, which took an excruciating amount of time due to his unwillingness to cooperate. Next, we had to take a photo and turn it into a silhouette. I had a bit of trouble with the lighting, but nothing too bad, after that it was pretty straightforward, I just messed around a bit with the silhouette feature on Snapseed.

The final task was to recreate an old photo of yourself. The hard part was finding a photo that I could actually recreate, so it took a bit of time to get an image. I managed to find the clothes I was wearing in the photo, but the sun wasn’t up so I couldn’t recreate it perfectly, but it still turned out pretty good. That’s pretty much it, thanks for reading!

Everyday Objects Learning Portfolio Post

Our last project was about taking photos of everyday objects and than personifying them by giving them eyes, teeth, etc. So for my my everyday object, I took a picture of a plain old shoe.

We had to do a photo walk of other everyday objects, so I took a picture of a pencil sharpener, a water bottle, and a potato, but I decided to use the shoe. Now, you may ask “wait! This is the back of a shoe!” Yes, it is, and I was originally going to edit the back of the shoe, but changed my mind later. Here is my edited shoe:

I mainly used the markup in the photos app, but messed around with Snapseed a bit as well. I personally think it looks a bit like some kind of dinosaur, but I want to know what you think it looks like, so remember to comment!

Slime Molds

So, a while back I heard about this thing called a slime Mold, some kind of weird living slime. I thought that sounded pretty neat, so I did some research on it and this is what I found. So, basically a slime Mold is this weird slimy goo that can move around by itself. It’s actually a bunch of amoebas joined together, not an animal or plant, and was once classified as a fungus, but is no longer part of any specific group.

They come in many different colours and shapes, some growing up to several square metres. More than nine hundred different species of slime molds exist, living pretty much everywhere on earth. Slime molds like to eat little fungi and bacteria on rotting logs or other dead plant material, and are usually found in soil, lawns, mulch, and logs, and reproduce by releasing spores from their mass.

I’ve included a short video to clear up any questions you may have, (Video is not mine, made by Deep Look) and if you still have questions, you can comment down below and I’ll try to answer them. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx3Uu1hfl6Q

Now lets test your knowledge with this quiz: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc-3NK_TWQXl6krzrEsvbc9DixHFjx7IGLukJunaiPvYbFgRg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Oregon Ad Reflection

We just finished our Oregon ads, and now its time to reflect. Our ads were on a restaurant called the chalet. When I was making my ad I took all the things I had learned from the Deep Cove ad and made sure that I kept them in mind while making my ad. My group was a bit more prepared than last time, and had more detailed notes and better photos. With this advantage, I set out to complete my first draft.

My first draft was pretty much just a picture of their sign with a slogan and a phone number. I used the slogan “family friendly, family owned” because the restaurant is family owned and like to emphasize this. Obviously this could be improved, and my second draft included a picture of some their fish and chips, and had an address, phone number, and the same slogan. My next draft was similar, but I changed the font colour to increase visibility, and added their logo. My final draft was the same as the previous, except that I changed the photo to a hamburger, which had better resolution and looked more appetizing.

In my opinion this ad was infinitely better than my Deep Cove ad, and although it looks a little bit amateurish, I think I made a pretty good ad.

Oregon Field School Reflection

During our field school in Oregon there were many memorable moments. This post will cover most of them. First I’m going to talk about the food highlights, and there were quite a few! The main ones were the Thai restaurant we went to (Nisa’s Thai Kitchen) which was really good, and even though I don’t really like chicken, the Chinese restaurant we went to’s chicken was absolutely delicious. Out of all the buffets we went to, The Golden Corral was definitely the best, with pretty much everything you could want from a buffet. Another good honourable mention was the Chalet.

Now for the best of the entertainment, I think the place I enjoyed the most was the High Life Zipline, with John’s incredible pizza company a close second. The Tillamook cheese factory also was pretty cool, and had some delicious cheese. It was also pretty neat when we went on the boat tour and got to see what we caught in the trawl net, and we even saw a couple whales!

Now for the *shudder* educational part of our trip. It actually was pretty fun, and some of my favourite parts were the marine science visitor center, were we got to build little remote controlled submarines, the Northwest trek were we got to see all kinds of animals like bison and mountain goats, and Fort Stevens were we got to learn all kinds of cool history. Reflecting on the field study as a whole, it was definitely worth it and instrumental to our learning because not only did it tie in with things we were already learning in school, but it also taught us things we didn’t even know we wanted to learn.
