Driving Question
What psychological, social, and cultural factors drive individuals to seek belonging in groups with extreme or radical beliefs, and how do these groups fulfill needs that mainstream communities may not?
In exactly 15 hours and 40 minutes, I will have officially graduated high school.Ā
ā¦My final blog post is due in exactly 15 hours and 40 minutes.
It is a late Thursday evening. Iāve just come home from my last PLP banquet as a PLP student⦠(you havenāt seen the last of me, I have siblings and I am sorry in advance.)
So, in other words, what Iām saying is that itās late, my brain is dead from my last ever high school test (it was the pre-calc final), and I can barely keep my eyes open, soā¦
Donāt worry, I censored it. Despite me being 18 now, this is still a pg blog.
What Iām saying is that this is not going to be a glorious, 1000 word essay about my time at plp and how much Iāve grown and what Iāve learned, which somehow magically intertwines with this final project we did on cults and makes you (I mean, actually, just me) cry.Ā
No, no, no. If you couldnāt tell from the run-ons already, this is going to be word vomit.
But enjoyable word vomit, because I canāt stand being boring ever.Ā
(Slowly, the gifs in my blog posts have transitioned from Star Wars to cats over the years ā foreshadowing for my future as a crazy cat lady without cats, cause Iām allergic š« ā¦)
Anyways, Iām going to go through this lightning fast, so I can enjoy my last day of school without a looming, lingering blog post hanging over my head.Ā
For our last project, we learned about cults.Ā
Me and Faith made this:
We decided, the best way to demonstrate our understanding of cults, their appeal, and the tactics they use, was to make our own cult.Ā
We asked (manipulated) a lot of our class, and people outside of it (Faith got her youth group to join in), to pretend to be members of our cult.
It was surprisingly so successful, that maybe we should consider being cult leaders after we graduate⦠jk jk⦠unlessā¦
Then, we were only supposed to research one cult. We researched three, not including the bonus ones I did a bit on for fun. Including that research into our video made it 13 minutes long šĀ
Which is also the reason why this blog post sucks (I actually wanted to make it very cool and meaningful), because I just finished editing the final portion of that 13 minutes this morning šĀ
Anyways, final take-away here. Our video is legitimately awesome. In the very important process of making it, I got to go into Faithās sauna, which was probably the best part.Ā
Also Iām graduating⦠well, I mean, technically the ceremony was over a month ago, so Iāve already graduated. But letās not get into the nitty gritty here.
After all it is now 12am and I am fried. Kentucky fried chicken. š š š„ šĀ
Bye bye!Ā

WAIT!
ā¦I have to do one more Star Wars gif.
