Coded Chemistry

So what was the chemistry coding project about? It was about learning about the kinetic molecular theory and take what we had learned and put it into a game or matter simulator focused on science and what we had learned. But what was the driving question of this project? It was: how can the behaviour of matter be explained by the kinetic molecular theory and the atomic theory.

So what did we learn and how did we learn it?

Well we started with a project start mind map about what we knew about the project and chemistry, that kind of thing. Then we read some text books and answered some question on the text books to show ourselves what we knew, what we need to know and what might want to touch up on. We also did some experiments, to learn, to drive some points home and to pique our interest in the d project in other ways to motivate us. One of the experiments that we did was the gemstone identification challenge. Our teacher: mister Gross gave us some cheap gemstones to identify using a method. An other thing that the experiment helped teach us was the scientific process and how to record our findings. Once we had done all of our learning we started coding our projects on scratch: you can see mine here (at the time of writing this i have some minor adjustments to do) i decided to make a matter simulator instead of a game because i am not creative enough to make a game on science.

Here is my mindnode

The basis of my simulator is that you start with a menu screen and you can pick a particle or atom to have simulated based on the temperature. The different options of things that you can have simulated are: salt, lithium, neon and xenon, two of them are solid at room temperature: salt and lithium and two of them are in gas form at room temperature, neon and xenon. Once yo had picked one of the option, it would then send you to a “particle simulator screen” where there would be four buttons, one to increase the temperature and one to lower the temperature. The particles would then change the speed at which they would move because of temperature, proved by the kinetic  molecular theory. Once you were there and kinda stupid and/or lost you could press the help button which would tell you the obvious thing to do, duh. Once you want to have another ting simulated you press the back button and then pick  another particle.

That was my blog post on my project, thank you for reading!
