Being a part of in Destination Imagination (DI) was an exciting and creative challenge for my group and me. We had to come up with our own story, build props, and present our final performance to a panel of judges. Even though I couldn’t be there on the day of the performance, my group and I worked together to create a strong story by finding our strengths and weaknesses and use them to the best of our abilities. In the end, our hard work paid off, we came in first place for the scientific category! This experience taught me how important teamwork and problem solving are when creating a script and props from scratch. Seeing our ideas come to life through the props and acting out the story felt rewarding, and I learned that even small contributions can make a big impact on the final result.

Here was our feedback from the performance:
One thing I want to improve on for next time is time management. Since there were so many things to put together, I found that working ahead and organizing tasks better would have made the process smoother. DI showed me the importance of creativity and collaboration, which I can apply what I have learned from that into other upcoming projects.
We created a parody from the song Earth by Lil Dicky, where one of my teammates plays the guitar and the aliens sing the song.
As a leader in my DI group, I made sure to encourage everyone’s ideas and keep us organized. I helped guide my team when we were deciding on the story and gave suggestions on how to build the props and set pieces I took responsibility for creating important parts like the spaceship and helped with the backdrops. I also supported my teammates by helping solve problems when we got stuck on something. Being a leader taught me how to listen to others, make decisions, and keep the group working together.
The skills I developed in DI, like creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving, are things I can use in my future. Since I want to work in psychology and human behaviour, I can apply what I learned about storytelling and communication to help connect with people in a meaningful way. DI also taught me how to adapt and think on my feet, which is an important skill in any career. Whether I’m working on a project, collaborating with others, or presenting, having experience with problem-solving that I have gained from DI will help me find creative ways to stay open to new possibilities.
