Growth of my mindset

Hello lads and welcome to another blog post! This one is about a PLP specialty, the infamous Growth Mindset. Through the past few weeks, we’ve been working through many growth mindset related learning and activities.

You may be asking what even is a growth mindset?

Growth mindset is essentially god in our PLP classroom. We worship and pray to it every day. Ok that’s actually a joke but we do adore it. Having a growth mindset is believing that you can achieve your goals and accepting failure as part of the journey. A fun comparison we made in class is this adorable cat video about Timo the cat. Here is the video if you’d like to watch it!

Timo the cat had a bit of a journey getting into his hammock but decided to persist and eventually prevailed! It’s honestly an adorable video, I highly recommend it. It’s a bit silly but it’s actually a great representation of what having a growth mindset means.

During the project, one particular lesson that stuck out to me was Fixed Mindset praise vs growth mindset praise. Growth mindset praise would be complimenting someone on the process of their goal and not only the end product. For example, “Wow that looks so cool! I can see how hard you worked on it!”

An example of fixed mindset praise would be, “Wow that looks so cool! You’re so talented!” In reality, the person probably would have worked really hard on the thing and chances are that it’s not natural talent. It is shown that people who get growth mindset praise on their work are more likely to succeed in life. I decided to make a meme to go along with this lesson:

Throughout the growth mindset learning we were constantly adding to our Growth Mindset Journals. If you’d like to view my journal, here it is.

The end goal of this project was to create at growth mindset selfie with a long-term academic goal. Here is the one I created:

There was lots of revisions in the process of coming up with my goal but I finally settled on one!

I hope you enjoyed reading all about growth mindset!

Sincerely, Me
