Time Is Money

Hello and welcome back to my blog. Today’s post is the last of the year. This is about a new scimatics project about linear equations.

in this project, we had to make an imaginary business. I decided to make a sewing service since I already had the supplies and enjoy sewing.  Because I already had all the supplies, my startup cost was $0.

Milestone 2 was where we had to make a spreadsheet with all our startup information. Here is mine:

In Milestone 3, we made an equation for our graph that would show how much money we were making at any amount of time our business had been running. My hourly rate was decided to be $20, so this is my equation:

A typical equation with variables would read y=mx+b

M = slope

B = intercept

M was substituted with 20/1 because I make $20 for each 1 hour I work. B was substituted with 0 because that was my startup cost.

Milestone 4 was actually making the graph. We used an app called Desmos to make exact graphs for us. Using Desmos, I calculated that I would make $36,700 every year if I worked 5 hours every day.

The X axis represents hours worked, and the Y axis represents dollars earned.

Milestone 5 was making a keynote for this project, and then making a video narrating the slides.

Competencies:

Understanding and solving:

I used understanding and solving well in our workbooks and Khan Academy quizzes. I didn’t really understand the material at first but I stuck with it and ended up completely getting it.

Communicating and Representing:

I think I used this competency well in Milestone 5 when we made our videos. My video shows what we did in this project, explains environmental impacts, and reaches the other criteria set for the project.

Connecting and Reflecting:

I used connecting and reflecting in this project by connecting my business and equations to environmental impacts, and learning about food chains and webs, and various cycles. I also connected this project to my personal interests by having a sewing business.

The Driving Question

How can we predict our finances for the future?

In this project we used equations and graphs to predict our future finances. Using the equation, we could find out how much money my potential business could make at any point of operation.

Welp, thats it for the year! I hope you enjoyed my blog this year because I sure didn’t… JK hhahahahahha

Sincerely,

Me
