‘How It Started/How Its Going Summative blog post’

Another project has Passed in PLP, This one was a lot more public than A lot of our other ones. As always, the project starts with a driving question. This one’s was: “What can we learn from the past and how does that matter to us today”. I think that the there are many answers to this question, but the most important answer in my opinion is that we learn from past mistakes and do better to avoid them in the future. If society’s today made the same mistakes that people made in the past, it would affect everything and everyone. We would make the same decisions that caused chaos and destruction in the past. That’s my answer to the driving question and the one I think is most important, but other people could have different opinions.

We have created a lot though this project to answer the driving question. Stepping stones in PLP are the little pieces of work that lead up to the milestones, which are bigger assignments that are very important to the project. This was a big project so I’m going to try to narrow it down to the important bits so you don’t fall asleep while reading.

At first we looked at multiple different museums around the world using an app called Google Art and Culture to view museums in augmented reality. We then took notes on the paintings, layout, aesthetic, art and brought it into a mind map. Here’s a picture of mine:

This was an effective way of organizing important thoughts and ideas.

After, for milestone 1, we had to create a museum using a meme template that summed up our entire project. This was a small experiment to introduce us to the project. Not only did we have to create a meme using the how it Started how its going meme template, but we had to create a museum for it to be displayed in using our notes on museums and layout. It was a good start to the project and would be very helpful later on.

We then focused on a lot about worldview. We learned about the 6 aspects of worldview, knowledge, society, beleifs, Values, time, and geography.

We learned about what each of those aspects meant and how they affect our overall worldview. We made yet another mind node and used it to map out ideas we had about the aspect and what they meant. We also created an art chart to review ideas we had about the aspects. We had to find picture that represented an aspect and explained why it did. It looked a little something like this

After we had completed this, for milestone 2 we had to create a collage of our worldview. Use any pictures we had of events that may have affected our worldview. We sorted this down into the 6 aspects so we had to provide pictures of things that may have affected that aspect, whether it be an object or event you had to have a photo and make a collage of it. After you creates the visual half of the project you had to hand in a separate document explaining your thoughts and reasoning behind the photos you chose. After a big revision of my first draft I was satisfied with my work

Then, we started learning about medieval and Renaissance times. As it was interesting and fascinating, It was a grind. We were learned how to take proper Cornell notes to organize our thoughts efficiently. It’s definitely something I’d value going forward into university or anytime I need to take notes, I’m to lazy to explain so here’s a video:

Using our notes, we wrote a test on a past event in either the Renaissance or medieval times affected one of our aspects of worldview. I wrote about society and how the feudalism system is still apparent in todays society.

Depending on what aspect of worldview you wrote about, you were sorted in a group of people who also wrote about your aspect. With your group, everyone would each choose a painting in which represented your worldview. You then took your paintings and created a story with them using a story spine method:

We took our painting and photoshopped our face and any items or objects that made it relevant to todays worldview on your aspect. Here’s mine as an example

I included a assortment of modern day luxury items in substitute of the ermine on the lady’s hands to represent wealth in modern day. We made our edits around our artist statement, which was a page of writing explaining modern day worldview compared to past worldview.

After we did this we were split into roles to create a museum(milestone 1 connection?). Each group member had a role. There were the room designers that designed the room. The techies, who created the virtual room (worked very close with the room designers). The art designers, who put the art in the frame. The writers, who wrote the introduction to the exhibit. The flex group members, who did anything to help with anything that needed help. And finally that DRIs who was like the manager. They made sure that everything was going according to plan. When The museum was completed. We had a live zoom launch to release our beautiful creation to the public. Each of the roles got together and gave a little presentation on what their roles were in creation of their room. Here is the Link to the virtual museum and if you stumble upon the society room, you can thank me for the beautiful design.

In PLP Curricular competencies are a big way of self reflection and grading. There are three curricular competencies for each English 8, Maker 8 (ADST) and Social Studies 8. We are graded with each using a cloud ☁️ emoji, cloud with a sun ⛅️ a sun emoji ☀️ And a rain bow emoji🌈.

English 8

I can construct a meaningful personal connection between myself and the text. I can transform ideas to create text I can express an opinion and support it with credible evidence

I think that I deserve a sun for this competency.Eight did a pretty good job on taking notes and making mind maps. There is always room for improvement as my test writing could use some revision and my collage was almost entirely re designed. But overall I think I have constructed and original, personal, critical, and creative connection between myself, the text, and the world with supportive and credible evidence.

Maker 8

I can use technology to effectively inappropriately construct my knowledge

I think that I deserve at least the sun emoji for this competency. I thought that I created a great final project using my iPad device that showed my learning and my effectively showed and represented my message.

Social Studies 8.

I can assess the significance of people, places, events or developments at particular time and places, including identifying what the creators of accounts, narratives, maps, or test, have determined is significant

this competency is all about the past and how it affects today’s decisions. I think that I deserve a sun emoji for this competency. I showed that I could understand the hidden meaning behind texts or paintings. I then showed this understanding in my work.

All in all I thought this project was great. It helped us understand the past and how events back then affect us right now, and what mistakes we can prevent in the future. And I thought the virtual museum was cool to.

PS. Here’s a worldview collage that our class made in book creator!
