‘The More Things Change Summative Blog Post’

Our Final Project in humanities 8, one I’ll never forget.

(Im on the right)

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. Today I will be summarizing my learning experience with my final project in humanities 8. The more things change. Like all projects in PLP, this project  started with a driving question. How did the European  settlement affect everyone involved. Since the time of the first Contact, Canada has evolved tremendously. All of Canada’s sophisticated infrastructure haschanged to meet todays modern values and lifestyles. A constant that has stayed the same is supply and demand in Canada, originating from the early days of then fur trade. That’s just my opinion on the answer and as always, the question’s answer may vary depending on ones worldview.

Launch

In the launch phase of our project we started with analyzing a nearby town called Deep Cove. We looked for constants and changes in the town and had to write a couple paragraphs identifying what the changes and constants were and connecting to them. Here are some photos, what can you identify?

After this we moved onto our

Building Knowledge

phase. Here we learned about everything we needed to know about the European fur trade, and how to make a proper infographic, which would be our final product in this project. We learned everything about beaver pelts. to the founding of New France and the seven years war, and how the First Peoples were affected by this trade and colonization. We used some amazing activities to learn all about the fur trade like creating a fur trade simulation using the three major groups in the fur trade which was really fun. We also created slide shows in a group about a certain topic and were critiqued by another group impersonating famous people. In this phase we started to learn about what makes a good infographic and started putting together a great infographic. Which leads me to the.

Develop and Critique

Phase. In the develop and critique phase, our main focus was to perfect our infographic. Me and my partner went through multiple revisions, maybe re-designing the images, re writing the sentences, and creating the perfect format. The final copy of the infographic would be taken be printed and displayed up in the school. Learning how to write a good thesis (the answer to our driving question) and using evidence would be crucial in creating a perfect infographic.

Present and Reflect

This stage was the end of the project. The infographic was created and displayed in the school somewhere, and a YouTube video was created as a breakdown on the infographic. This helped shine some light on important aspects of the project.

Competencies

In this project, we had 2 competencies, one for Humanities and one for Language Arts

Social Studies 8                                                                                                How are lives and conditions alike overtime and how have they changed?

This competency means that I can characterize different time periods in history, including periods of process and decline, and identifying key turning points that mark periods of change. This means that I can identify continuity and change throughout time and mark events that cause change. I gave myself a accomplished for this competency. Some of my work wasn’t always totally true but I fact checked to make sure everything was good

Use evidence from various sources. How do we evaluate evidence to decide if it is adequate to support historical conclusion

This means that I can assess the credibility of sources and the adequacy of evidence used to justify conclusions. This is about using evidence to make sure everything is correct and true. Finding and listing sources is important for this competency. I gave myself a accomplished for this as I didn’t do well on recording sources always but In the end I used evidence really well.

Overall this was a great project and it was a great experience to create and present an infographic.
