Hello everyone. This is chapter three of untitled. I won’t tell you to much about this chapter. But I hope you like cliffhangers, because you’re gonna have to get used to them. Here you go. Enjoy.

When we look back on this, what will we see?

Our mistakes?

Our successes?

Or will we just see a broken world.

A world that is like a person with cancer.

A world that will shrivel up and die if it doesn’t rid itself of its disease.

Gravel crunches under my feet. The sun shines through the blue sky without a cloud in sight. It’s a comforting twenty degrees, and there is a gentle breeze in the air. I hold my hand up to my eyes to block out the sun as I approach the behemoth of a ship, the Icarus 4. The Icarus is a fabled ship destined to touch the stars. And I’ve been chosen to tag along. I reach the boarding ramp, and the sun disappears behind the Icarus. A voice comes over the loudspeakers.

“Please make your way to the conference room, the second door on your left.” I head over in that direction, still amazed that I’m here. The door swings open as I grow near it. I thought that I would be the first one here, because I didn’t see anyone on the boarding ramp, but the oval table in the centre is full, except for one chair.

“Thank you for joining us, Ms. Bakoulev.” A man at the front of the room addresses me.

“Ali. It’s Ali.” The man gestures to the empty chair.

“Welcome everyone. My name is Lucero.” The room shuffles, waiting for the interesting part. There are twenty four of us around the table, with Lucero at the end. Most of the people look under seventeen. The oldest looking person is a tan girl with straight raven black hair.

“You have all been chosen to test out new groundbreaking nanotechnology.” The room comes alive with whispers. No one can believe it. We have all heard of nanotech. It first emerged in 2047, when a scientist found out how to link technology to neural outputs, and from then on it has evolved beyond imagination. The man goes to speak again. “You have either been chosen because of your intellect, or your athletic proficiency. You will be split into groups of two, one person to learn and document how the nanotechnology works, and one person to train in using the nanotechnology and battle and stealth training. I will now tell you your groups.” I wait nervously for my name to be called, not really paying attention to the other groups. My name is called last. “Leonardo Valson, and Aaliyah Bakoulev.”

“It’s Ali,” I call over my shoulder. Before I have time to introduce myself to my partner, the door at the back of the room closes. I whirl around with the room. The man standing there introduces himself. “Hello everyone. I will be overseeing your progress on the Icarus 4.” Something flies out of my mouth before I can stop it.

“Dad?”
