What was the impact of global exploration?

To start off this project, we watched a movie. Not the normal start we have to our projects, but a fun one. We watched Captain Phillips, a movie about Somali pirates who hijack a ship that is being commandeered by Captain Phillips. This was an example of modern day piracy, and our project was about the age of exploration, which had a lot of piracy involved.

Launch: In this segment of our project, we learned all about cause and consequence. Cause and consequence is the idea that around a certain event, there are causes and consequences, or effects. We also learned about a new app called AR Makr. This app placed object in a world accessed from your camera.

Building Knowledge: For this segment of the project, we learned about the Age of Exploration. This was the time period where the European countries on the west coast set out to find faster trading routes. During this period, Columbus “discovered” the “new world” and that set forth something know as the Columbian exchange.

Develop and Critique: For this, we worked on presenting a story that documents the age of exploration, and the causes and consequences. We made this in the form of a video of AR Makr. That video is right here.

I think that the answer to the driving question can be answered in many ways. I think that the impact of global exploration was the colonization and settlement of the new world. That initial impact has had long lasting effects, including the fact that we live in the new world.

Now I am going to talk about the competencies.

Analyze Cause and Consequence: For this competency, we had to understand what caused important event, and the ramifications the event had on the immediate future, and the long term consequences it could have on the world. We had to demonstrate this in Milestone 2, with the web of cause and consequences.

Discussing, Listening, and Speaking: This competency is the ability to understand the content we are learning and being able to discuss the content. This is also the ability to speak clearly and to be understood. We used this in our final video with the voiceovers we did.

Empowered Learner: This competency is the ability to use the technology we have at our disposal effectively. We used this in our final video with the AR Makr.

If you want to try out this app for yourself, here is a link to the app we used, AR Makr. Here are some other links to my classmates, if you want to see some of their opinions on this topic. SepausColton, and Theryn.
