Starting in the Second World War, allied soldiers would draw a character named Kilroy everywhere they went. Kilroy is a person or creature with a very large nose peeking over a wall. He has two tiny eyes and a round bald head. There was also another version of Kilroy named (Mr.) Chad. Chad was often seen complaining about there being no petrol or about other things. He was often drawn by British troops.

German soldiers began to see Kilroy and actually started to think that Kilroy was an allied spy who was everywhere before the axis forces were. There was also the Australian “Foo was here”, from WWI.
