After deliberating with a small group in class we decided, in our opinion, the physical geography of the west has shaped the outcome of Canadas history and so, we believe the history is the main affect of geography that affects us.
Our trip to Alberta wasn’t just for fun, the goal was for looking deeper into the effects of the land we see all around us all the time. Although bonding and fun was a great way for our cohort to get closer the trip was also a window into the past. Canadas history of course starts with the First Nations living here for hundreds of thousands of years before European colonialism and both First Nations and the new settlers culture and lives were shaped by the world around them.
The books goal was so we could actually form an answer to the driving question, “how does the geography of the west shape us?” Before simply knowing the answer to a question you have to learn. My book is no where near perfect but I hope it can be a glimpse into how we came about our answer to the driving question: “The geography of the west shapes our rich history, influencing us to continue evolving our accomplishments and to learn from our past mistakes.”
