Women and The Taming of the Shrew

Our second project of the year was about the history of women’s rights and to comparing and connect it to Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”. Throughout this project we looked at how the lives of women have changed and stayed the same since the 15th century.

For part of the project we were separated into four groups and made a presentation focusing on the live of women in either the 40-50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s-20s my group focused on the 60s. These presentation were very insightful and layout a clear time line of the continuity and change in the 20th century for women’s rights and freedoms.

While we were learning about the history or women’s lives throughout time we were also were reading  “The Taming of the Shrew” and watching a movie adaptation  of the play. The play is one of Shakespeare’s comedies and has a message that depending on how and when you look at the text can be interpreted many different ways.

For the final product of this project was an essay answering our driving question: How can we use our study of “The Taming of the Shrew” to understand how much, yet how little, has changed for women?
