WW1 Comic Reflective Post

After learning about many things about WW1, learning how to make a graphic novel, and drawing our own story for WW1, I have completed my own novel.

So we are approaching the end of the year and it’s almost summer break!! So anyway, this humanities project was mainly on WW1, we learned about WW1 mostly by learning about the different battles, such as passhindale, Ypres and others. We also learned about comic books and how they are made and structured. And eventually, we made our own comics and mine is finished. The driving questions for this project is.How can researching the historical significance of World War I inform and enhance the storytelling in a graphic novel I create?

WW1 and comic learning

One of the first things we did was, obviously learn about ww1. Ww1 tensions were on the rise between countries and Franz Duke Ferdinand was assinated which started the war, we learned about many battles, such as the battles of Ypres, passindale, and many more. We also learned about the life on the frontlines during the war and the sad realities of war. After learning about WW1, we learned about how to make a comic which we needed to help make our own comic. We learned about some techniques, such as bleed and reverse.

The Final comic book

The final product for this project is a comic book on events that happened on WW1, we make up our own character and our own topic of interest. I chose tank operators in the battle of Cambrai, where the use of tanks were the most successful. The tanks in the battle of Cambrai helped the allies take 8km of territory on the first day. I usually drew most of the images in procreate and keynote. I hope you enjoy reading my comic

Reflection

So looking back at it now, learning about ww1 was interesting to me because I did not learn much about history in elementary school, so this was something new and It fascinated me. Secondly, drawing the comic was not an enjoyable experience to me because I am not good at drawing and I did not really enjoy it. Lastly, my comic ended up decent despite me not being a good drawer. So in conclusion. I think the comic ended up decent despite me having no drawing skills.

Short documentary reflection

After watching a doc per day, filming, and editing, I have made my short film of the year

So we are approaching the end of the year and it’s almost summer break, yay!!. For for this maker project, the main goal is to make a short film on a story we have to find. We also watched documentary’s to learn about how they are made and why they have meaning. The driving questing for this project is. “How can I use film to tell a meaningful story from my life or community?”. So lets get into it now!!

Stuff we did in class

Some of the stuff we did was watching a documentary per day. We had to make notes on those movies with questions to find out how the film techniques shape the story of the film, we, after watching the documentary’s, we started to plan out our documentary. Like b roll, story map and other things.

Final product

So the goal is to make a YouTube video, a documentary on a story we have to find, I chose my dads motorcycle adventures around Europe on his trip to Italy in his 20s, the lesson of this documentary is that motorcycling is a fun sport, but has its risks and problems. So enjoy my video!

Final Reflections

So overall, I think this was a good way to end off the year for this maker class to make a high quality video and show that through our storytelling, filming and editing techniques. So overall, I think I did well with showing my skills and I think I did good at wrapping up the school year with this short film.

Pollination and spring exhibition

After learning about reproduction, learning about pollination and pollinator and enduring a spring exhibition, I have completed the last science project of the year

So we are approaching the end of the year and at the time of writing this we’re at the last week of school, so this project is mainly about pollinators and how we can protect and preserve them .the driving question for this project is. “How can we support and protect local pollinators to ensure healthy ecosystems in our community?” And this blog post is made to answer that.

Reproduction

One of the first thing we did in this project is we learned about cell reproduction, mainly mitosis and the stages of mitosis. Learning about mitosis and these reproductive methods was interesting because this is something I have never learned about unlike other science project where already knew what was being taught to me. We also learned about meiosis in plants and also pollination.

Spring Exhibition

After learning about pollination. We were put into groups for our spring exhibition. We did some exhibition prep for two weeks, which was not a lot of time for an exhibition. We worked on pamphlets, a petition, food, games, and other stuff related to the exhibition. For this exhibition, we were bats. Bats do pollinate, but not in BC, which made it a challenge for us to show bats for our exhibition. But in the end, we did it anyway, and our pollination exhibition ended up being the best thing we did for the exhibition. So, in conclusion, this is what happened during our spring exhibition.

Reflection

So reflections on this project, I think this project for being the first science project being in a PLP exhibition went very well, people liked our stands, the others teachers liked it and the other grades liked our stand, especially ours. Secondly, the process of preparing the stand was enjoyable, despite the little time we had compared to other exibitions we did. Lastly, for this project, I probably learned the most new stuff out of any science project which was good for me so I wasn’t too bored in class. So in conclusion, this is my reflection on this project

TPOL

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

So this is the final POL I am doing for grade 9 so I am going to talk about my vmv and the goal s associated with it and the habits I learned from it and also why I should go to to grade 10. Also I am going to talk about my favourite projects from each PLP class.

Maker

So my favourite project I did for this class is the peak potential project where we went to Alberta. One of the reasons I feel this is because, we mainly went to Alberta which was a fun trip to go to and the nature of Alberta as well, but I think the main reason is going outside of the comfort zone the whole time on the trip hiking at least 10k per day. Lastly, it’s also the videos we made there such as the interviews and the ghost town video which I am most proud of. In conclusion, this is why this is my favourite projects in Maker.

Science

For Science, my favourite project must be the chemistry project were we learned about compounds, this is my favourite project because I liked the labs the most where we burned certain compound the Bunsen burner and it burns different colours. Secondly, I enjoyed the learning that I did in this project because I actually learned something new in science in this project instead of learning what I already knew. In conclusion, this is why this is my favourite science project.

Humanities

For my favourite project for humanities, it has to be frankenstuffies. Firstly, I liked it because I enjoyed learning about the Industrial Revolution and it was interesting because the western countries advanced so much because of it. I also liked it because of the final product which is a movie about our stuffies and I liked the process of making the video. In conclusion, this is why I liked this project the most in humanities.

VMV goals and Habits

So At the beginning of the year, we made something called the VMV, Vision, Mission, Values. Which I probably talked about in other POLs. The VMV is a document I made at the beginning of the year and it talks about my goals and how I will achieve them.  One of my first goals was to procrastinate less and I think I have worked on that goal for all of grade 9, I feel like this goal hasn’t been achieved yet because there were some times that I procrastinated and I feel like i have to work on that more. The second goal was to hang out more with friends at school, and I have achieved that goal for this year. My third goal was to be more active and I have been working out for 6 months and the other goal was to sail a lot more and I am working on it, just got apporoved to sail the boat I want to sail. The last goal was making money in any way, like a job or side hustles. I feel like I have not done much in that goal but I want to work on it.

Success behaviours

One of the most important things I used to achieve the goals I have achieved are the sucess behaviros I have in my vmv. Such as agency, I used agency for getting myself to work out and showing resilience so I can keep working out consistently. I also used agency to start sailing again for this season by singing up for the club and going to the orientation for the boat I am sailing. For engagement I used that to start hanging out with my friends at school, such as at lunch because I used to go home for lunch a lot in grade 8. I also used engagement to contribute in class more often and aid in discussion. I used collaboration to engage and contribute to group projects more and be a reliable and trusted team member. So in conclusion, this is how I used the core comptencies to achieve and work on those goals in my VMV.

Final reflection

In conclusion, I think I did well with my goals from my VMV this year and using my core compenticies for acheveing those goals. But also, I think I still have things to work on, such as procrastination and working on my engagement. So in short, I think I did well this year and I am ready to move on to grade 10
