Part 4 of the 7 habits of highly effective teenagers

After reading about part 4 and learning about renewal, I have finished the book

So at this point I have finished the book and have learned about all the 7 habits of the book, so for this last habit, it’s said to be the most important. Renewal.

Renewal

Renewal is what it sounds like, it’s basically taking a breaks and renewing yourself in many different ways, such as physically, spiritually, and more. Renewal is basically like taking a break after doing your day to day life, so you can keep doing whatever you are doing in your life better, physicality renewing yourself can be working out, walking or doing a sport. Spiritually renewing yourself can be meditating or sleeping. There are many ways I renew myself on a day to day basis, such as working out 4 times a week, trying to get good sleep, or just going outside. Hanging out-with my friends is also one way to renew myself and trying to be mindful about myself as well. In conclusion, this is how I renew myself.

Video

For each part of the book, we have to make a video about that habit in a fun and creative way, and the video is a YouTube short, so enjoy the video we made!

Chemhistory blog post

After learning more about atoms, compounds and more, I have created a masterpiece of art

So for this project, I am going to give a breakdown on what I did here, we learned about more about atoms, such as Bohr diagrams and valience electrons, we learned about compounds and ionic compounds, plus we did some labs. The driving question for this project is. “What impacts do elements and compounds have on history and modern day society?”

Bohr and Lewis diagrams

One of the first thing we did was reviewing our knowledge on our atomic knowledge, we reviewed protons, neutrons and electrons and the elements on the periodic table, we did Bohr diagrams which are based on the electrons positions and we also learned about valeinece electrons which are the electrons in the outermost electrons shell. We learned about Lewis diagrams which are similar but look a lot simplier and we did work on valience electrons there to.

Labs

We did a couple of labs in which we played around with compounds, the first lab we did was burning different compounds over the Bunsen burner, we tested the colour of the flames and some were green and a very dark red, with the lithium nitrate I think it was. So overall, that was a fun lab and I feel like what could other elements react like that in flames. The second lab we did was mixing differet compounds together and they made different coulours and textures. Which was really intresting

Compounds

The main part of this project was learning about compounds, the main compounds we learned about were compounds, ionic compounds and we learned about more. A compound is a mix of different elements such as for example,H2O. We learned about the different compounds and we learned another type of compounds, such as ionic compounds and more.

Artwork

The final product of this project is our artwork, which is made with cianitite, in which you cover parts of the paper in the sun and it changes colour. In which one part looks white and the rest is blue. We made our cianitite and we put it in the sun and made our artwork, which we had showed on Thursday.

Reflection

So in conclusion, I did learn more in this project than the other science projects, the parts where I learned the most were the compounds section of this project. So in conclusion, I learned more in this project then the other science projects.

Chapter 2 of the 7 habits

After reading chapter one of the book, I have learned how to be proactive.

So after reading this book for the second chapter, I have learned about what is called the priviate victory. The habits included is being proactive, putting first things first, and think with the end in mind and I will explain these habits and how I use them in my daily life

Be proactive

Being proactive basically means that you take accountability and be responsible for the things you can control in your life, such as emotions, attitude, and other things, one way I am proactive is by taking control of what I can, such as working out and not complaining about the things I cannot contol. One other way I am proactive is not procrastinate and doing my homework

Put first things first

Putting first things first is basically what is sounds like, putting bigger priorties first instead of less important things. In the book, it mentions the small and the big boulders, and if you put them in a bucket, you put the big rocks in first and the smaller rocks last so the cup can fill up easier. One why I put first things first is when I get home, after a couple hours I work out, eat dinner, and then do my homework. So basically, I prioritize my work and that way I work better, I have less work related stress and I feel better overall.

Think with the end in mind

Thinking with end in mind is what It sounds like, you basically think about the desired outcome of something, Like a road trip and where you want to end up, that’s an example of what it is. One way I think with the end is mind is how much muscle I want to gain from working out, such as I wanted to gain a couple pounds in a few months and I did that. Another way I think with the end in mind is how I want to end the day, having all of your work done and resting without worry of work

Video

For this chapter and the next chapters, we are supposed to make a YouTube short on the 7 habits and we show that in a creative way, so enjoy our video.

So in conclusion, this is how I use the habits in the private victory in my daily life

What Do I Really Want?

After reading a book, completing activities and learning about maniging myself, I have finally figured out what I really wanted

So this project started after winter break so it was depressing to come back to school and that means new projects in plp, this project was mainly about discovering ourself and the driving question for this project is. How might I tell a story about who i am and where I’m going? We mainly in this project made a video about how we organize ourselves, reading a book called what do I really want. And making a video about a story about ourselves

WDYRW activities

So as part of this project, we had to read a book called What Do I really Want and for each chapter of the book we had to do activities based on what I was taught in that chapter. I think in my opinion, the book was not great and I did not like doing the activities in the book because I did not like doing this types of projects in school, where I have to centre a school project around me. But overall, I did not really enjoy this part of the projects

Unboxing Me and Maniging me video

So this segment is all about the videos that I made in this project. The first video I made was the maniging me video, where I explained how I organized myself on a day to day basis, such as school, events and other things outside of my school. I mentioned how I used time blocking on the calendar app and the things app to organize myself

For the Unboxing me video, we first had to make a moving storyboard to help with filming by using animations for our storyboards, we also had to make script for us to read off of and we had to make a compelling story while explaining what we learned

Part 3 of the 7 habits of highly effictive teenagers

After reading for a few hours,I have learned about habit 4,5 and 6 in the 7 habits of highly effective teenagers

So have been reading this book called the 7 habits of highly effective teenagers for the past few weeks in maker class and it’s tied in a project. In which the driving question for this project is. “what does it take to become a highly effictive person.” For this post we learned about 3 other habits, think win win, seek first to understand, then be understood, and synergize.

Think win win

Think win win is the 4th habit of the book, and it sounds like what it is, its a mindset where you think on how you can win and the other person can win as well, win win basically. One way I use think win win in my day to day life is when I have to do homework, if  I do homework first over everything, then I can relax and I have finished my homework, so that’s win win

Seek first to understand, then be understood

Seek first to understand, then be understood is where you basically try to understand to other person first, like in a conversation, you listen first with full body listening and try to understand what the other person is talking about. And then it’s your turn to speak and then you seek to be understood by the other person. One way I use this in everyday live is the truth is, I don’t use it everyday because I would not be in the scenario to be in that situation.

Synergize

Synergize is what it basically sounds like: you have to work together to accomplish something you can’t do alone, such as carrying a heavy object or a large work presentation. Synergizing also involves trying to understand and accept the differences between others. One way I use this habit in everyday life is in school, when I have to work with other classmates for something in either of the PLP classes, that means putting our differences aside and trying to work together. For this book, for every chapter, we have to make a video about the habits in a creative and professional way, so below is the video and enjoy it

Intro

Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

What I did in each class this year

Science

In science, the first project we did was called. “Watt the heck”, this project was about electricity, Circuits, and how we can produce energy more sustainably, we as a end product made a operation board game where we had to use our skills in circuits to create a working board game. The next project in progress now is called chemhistory, we learned about atoms and compounds, some history, and more in depth about chemistry, such as polyatomic ions

Maker

In maker, the first project was called Peak Potential, where we went to Alberta to ask random strangers about the 10 essentials of life, but with a twist on in, we made questions about like but as the 10 essentials, I had to practice my video skills and a big lesson we learned was audio quality. Another short project we did was called running a remake, where we had to recreate a short film, I used my video and editing skills in this project the most. Another project in progress is called unboxing me, where I do a bunch of activities on what I want to do in the future and we have to make a video about it with an engaging story.

Humanties

The first project we did in humanties tied in with the maker project called peak potential where we went to Alberta, but however, we did a novel study on a book called banner in the sky where a boy climbed the tallest mountain in swisserland and we had a to make a character sketch on him. The next project we did was about revolutions and how they happen and how they effect us today, I studied to Meiji restoration with a group and with that group, we had to make a machine based of chain reactions and we had to present that at the winter exhibition.

Skills I learned on the iPad

  • Editing in iMovie and other apps
  • film techniques
  • Organization techniques
  • Greenscreen recording
  • Green screen editing
  • Editing in Davici Resolve editing app

What I did well

For what I did well this year, I think I did well on understanding and compherending whatever is being taught to me and I am able to understand to topic enough to summarize or teach the basics of the topic on what’s on hand. Another thing I did well this year is communications and collabariting with my classmates better and contributing more to groups discussions or projects. Lastly, I did well with getting more out of my comfort zone more often and a good example of this was the Alberta trip where I had to hike 10k or more a day and my body was not ready for it, But I still did it anyway and succeeded.

What I need to improve on

Firstly, I think one of the biggest things affecting me is still procrastination, the reason I do it is  there might be a task that I really do not want to do so I wait until the last minute and not be able to finish or provide a bad outcome, secondly I think it stresses me out too much but sometimes I work better under procrastination and it might be because of the pressure. Secondly, I think I need to engage more with the lesson in the class  and I think I need to improve this because I act like and don’t care about the lesson and get bored and focus on something that is not the lesson. In conclusion this is what I need to work on.

VMV review and reflection

So for the PrePol, we had to make document called the VMV, the VMV is basically a document that reflects goals, Visions, Missions and Values, What I wanted for my vision was to be a better person, have lots of money, have good people in my life, and good grades. I had some missions in my VMV and one of those goals was doing some sort of Phisical activity such as going to the gym, I have been consistently been going for 3 months and I said I wanted to to lots of sailing, I have not done sailing yet because its not the season yet. Lastly, I want to improve on the competencies in my VMV further and do better at them.

Conclusion

So in the end, I have lots of good things that I am doing as a plp student. There are also things I have to improve on and would like help with solving. So in conclusion, this is how I have been doing in plp and I hope you have enjoyed my MPol

DI Reflection

After working for a few months, designing, working on lines and rehearsing, and going to the regionals tournament, We only got 2nd place.

So, it’s that time of year again, DI! DI is a competition on how creative, smart and collaborative  and the crazy thing is it happens on a global scale, there are international championships on how creatives, smart and collabaritive you can be. I chose engineering because it’s where my skills shine and it’s mostly about the machine not the story, which I like. So I got into a group with Sam, Kai, Parker, Monica, and Sidney, ( I got their blog posts by their name)

The process

We started in mid January and we did some team building such as getting to know each other and learn more about ourselves, we also had to do a for where we showed each others interest and we integrated those into our team choice elements and other elements of our DI presentation, everyone assigned our own roles in the group, I was the main designer of the machine because I had 3D modelling skills and I had a 3d printer, which made a huge advantage in design and performance because all the other teams were using electric lego which does not have as much performance potential as 3d printing. I think by taking this role, I have learned many things about 3d modling and engineering, such as calculating gear ratios, getting the right distance between gears and getting better at soldering. When I finished it, it preformed so well it can carry more weight than was permitted in the DI, so I had the most solid machine probably out of anyone in engineering. Everyone on our team did well in their roles and we were ready for the tournament

The tournament

It was the tournament day, we were getting ready and doing some dancing, refining, and going over lines, we were finally ready to go up and preform, we were ready to preform and everything was going according to plan, the machine preformed flawlessly and got to the top super quickly, the machine was not going to its full potential because it did not have enough weight to reach its potential, everything went well and the instant challenge did not go so well. We got second in the lower mainland tournament, but we still have lots to improve on, such a sad the placement of the weighs for risk taking, working on our story and our lines. So in conclusion, we did good by placing in second but we still have a lot to improve on for the next tournament.

Reflections

So for the tournament, I think we did well by getting in second place, which is still good, but after getting the tournament points, we realized we had a lot to work on, such as making our story more creative, improving our team choice elements, and working on the machines innovation and risk taking of the weight placement. But overall, we did good but still have lots to improve on and we probably can improve everything by the next tournament.

Overall reflection

I think for DI this year, I have learned a lot, such as in my engineering skills, teamwork skills, and there are many things that I could work on in grade 10 Di. Firstly, I think my team could have distributed the workload and worked harder to make a better product, Secondly, I think that leadership could have made our team work harder, smarter and contribute more in making a good product. Lastly, I could have done better at easing my workload because the machine took a lot of my time as well. So in conclusion, this is what could have been done better in my team and I hope to improve next year

Frankenstuffies Reflective Post

After learning about the Industrial Revolution, Sewing stuffing and green screening and filming, I have created a film about an absolute monster

So first of all, this project started after winter break, so it’s been going on for a while, the driving question for this project is How can we, as writers, weave historical details into our creative storytelling to convey a clear and impactful message? In this project, we mainly learned about the Industrial Revolution.

Urbanization during the industrial revolution

The first thing we learned about urbanization during the Industrial Revolution. Firstly, over the lifespan of the revolution, coal has been mined and is used as a new source of fuel to start a revolution and drive innovation. Some innovations during the Industrial Revolution were the steam engine and factory’s that mass produce items for the public. Secondly, one of the big things during the revolution were the destruction of ecosystems from building the new cities and waste that is terrible for the environment. People started to change as well during the revolution, they started doing leisure sports to stay in shape and started to do more “fun stuff”. They started to go against the work and labour laws making their life worse and ultimately, they won and work conditions got better later on in the revolution

The Frankenstuffies

After learning about the Industrial Revolution, we had to make stuffies out of a bunch of different stuffies to make an abomination of a creature, I chose a Tiger, beluga and a teddy bear to tear apart and make an abomination out of. I then cut them up and started sewing them together to create a monster. After creating our monsters, we had to make a story for them, give them some character, we had to start making our story structure and make something called the hero’s journey, which is a story structuring method which is used a lot in storytelling. We then did a bunch of character building for our character before making our final product.

The Video

One of the last things and our final product was a video of my Frankenstuffie. One of the main components of the video was the character building we used and our hero’s journey of the character, one other element we did was green screen movement to move our character on a green screen and then we used backgrounds in IMovie for our movements, we also used our IMovie skills and our knowledge on the Industrial Revolution incorporated into the story of my  Frankenstuffie and the Final product was a video taking 2 drafts to revise

Reflection on driving question

So reflecting on the driving question, I think I have answered it because firstly, as a writer, I think I have made solid evidence of my learning through my hero’s journey and my story structure which will reflect in my film. Secondly, in terms of historical detail, I think that I have solid historical detail in my film and that shows in my urbanization game and my group jigsaw, lastly, I think I have made a clear and impactful message in my hero’s journey and my video because my storytelling shows that and the strong message I have in my video. So in conclusion, I think I have effectively answered the driving question through my work

Electricity board game

After learning about electricity and circuits, I have built a finicky operation board game

This is my first blog post for grade 9 for science, so the project we did for science was called Watt the heck, and the driving questions for this project is how does electricity shaped our society and how can we generate it more sustainability.

Circuts

One of the first things we did was learning about the different types of Circuts, closed and open circuts, closed circuits were closed so there was no open gap unlike a open circuit which has an open switch. We did some labs with it and they were pretty fun

Energy infographic and board game

Another thing we did was I made an energy infographic, the infographic was where we had to choose an energy source and make an infographic about the pros and cons and more about the energy source. The last thing we made for this project was a operation board game, where we used our knowledge on circuits and electricity on a game, the whole thing was an open circuit and the game was extremely finniky to make because of the small connections that had to be made but in the end I made it work

Reflection

So overall, I think this project was really easy for me because I understood the topics very well and I knew lots of the stuff before I did this project, the only hard thing in this project was making the board game work because it was really hard to get the connections together and to not get them disconnected which was real frustrating and finniky. So overall, I think this project was easy and I did learn some things from it

Revolution blog post

After a few months of learning about revolutions, building a machine and going through a winter exhibition, I have learned about revolutions and how they change the world.

So this project started at last year so happy new year to everyone!, this project was mainly about revolutions, and the driving question for this project is what factors precipitate “revolution” and how they have shaped the modern world, this project was also part of the winter exhibition in the form of a metaphor machine.

Animal Farm and Revolution theory

One of the first things we did was learn about Crane Brinton’s, theory about revolution. The 4 stages of revolution. The incubation stage is like a developing fever for a country, it can be a financial crisis or a military victory over another country. The moderates stage is wher a moderate rules the country and there are other moderates that get along for now. The crisis stage is where war and violence happens and corruption runs wild. The recover stage is where the moderates are put out of power and the original form of power is restored. The nest thing we did was read a book called“Animal Farm”, the book was basically about a farm and the animals were sick and tired of their human owner, so they overthrow them and the leaders, Napoleon and Snowball later got corrupt and then the humans came back, so basically a revolution, the book was one of the better books I have read in PLP so far and  is a 6/10 for me. We then participated in group discussions and we had to make note and a infographic on the book and how it was a revolution that happened in the book

The Meiji revolution

One of the next things we did for this project was we were put into groups by revolution, I was in the Meiji revolution group which was a group that I did not choose, so then we had to make another revolution infographic on the Meiji revolution. The Meiji restoration was a restoration that took place in the mid 1800s and what happened was a clan family got overthrown from power and Japan took on a imperial rule, the imperial rule changed lots of stuff in the country to industrialize and become a modern global superpower.

The metaphor machine and winter exhibition

So after we made our infographics we started to build our Rube Goldberg/metaphor machine. A metaphormachine is a Rube Goldberg machine that represents something, every action represents something that happened in the revolution We buildt the machine for a few weeks and we’re doing lots of testing and the machine was finally ready for the winter exhibition . The winter exhibition went smoothly and out group did pretty good and so did the other groups. The exhibition was ok for the most part except we had to stand the whole time which made my legs hurt after a while and I think break time should have been longer. I have also seen some of the other performances and the grade 8s did pretty good, and since we did it last year I think they did better than us

Final thoughts and reflections

So before and during the exhibition, I have some thoughts. Firstly, I think our team did well despite the machine not fully working some of the time and we pushed through like our machine did function well. Secondly, I think in the making of the machine, we has some setbacks on our teamwork because we’re were not working very well together sometimes, but we got over it and I think we came back strong from the setbacks. So in conclusion, I think this project went smoothly and I have leaned lots from it.

My answer to the driving question

The driving question for this project is what factors precipitate “revolution” and how they have shaped the modern world. Firstly, revolutions can change government dynamics and religion sometimes, they change the values of the country and its people for many years to come. Secondly, a factor that precitiptates revolution are the people getting sick and tired and rumors about the government go around saying either they are weak and incompetent. Lastly, Revolutions change their country’s by either making or breaking country’s, for example, the Meiji restoration saw the rapid industrialization of Japan marking it a global superpower. In conclusions, this is my answer to the driving question.
