Geek Out! Izzy Style

I never go anywhere without a pair of headphones

Welcome to possibly the most important page you will read in your entire life, or at least the most important thing you will read today. This page will be filled with all my opinions, likes and dislikes revolving around music. Anytime I have the opportunity to listen to music, I pull out my headphones and press play on my playlist. So sit back, relax, and get ready for the best blog entry of your life, maybe.

As you can see from the magnificent photo of my Spotify playlist above, you can see that my taste in music is very all over the place, and that’s what I love about it.  My playlist has such a wide selection of music on it, it is nearly impossible for me to get bored of it, and when I do, I completely change it and repeat the process.

How did I start my music obsession?

I have been listening to multiple styles of music from a really young age. My dad typically listens to jazz and Ukrainian folk songs, and my moms forte was musical theatre numbers, I have listened to every song from Louis Armstrong to Annie. I usually take a liking to pop and old rock, but I occasionally listen to the odd heavy metal song. When I first discovered the world of music, how you can tell a story through the lyrics, make people feel strong emotions with the melody and bass, it made me realize I had discovered my new favourite thing. I find it fascinating how there are endless opportunities and options when looking for music, writing music & even making parody’s. My world as I knew it got bigger and brighter with possibilities of making this passion into a career some day. I love music so much and I have my parents to thank for that.

My 7 favourite genres

In the world of music, there are many styles and genres of music that are widely appreciated throughout the world. People enjoy all types of music, but everyone has their favourites, and today I will be show you mine.

7. Coming in at number 7 is K-Pop! Now, I’m not the biggest fan of K-Pop, but I enjoy some song from the popular groups like BlackPink and BTS. Besides those two groups I know little to no other songs in this genre.

6. At 6 we have Musical Theatre, and occasional style for me. I was really into it a few years back, because through covid my mom and I would watch all the old musicals my mom watched when she was younger. I occasionally will pull out the Annie soundtrack and dance to it, but besides from that, I’m not an avid listener.

5. Jazz is 5. Since my dad is a big jazz fan, I tend to listen to this style more often than I would usually listen to it on my own. My personal favourite in this genre is Louis Armstrong, but I think its a product of my dad’s influence

4. Indie Pop is a genre that I like because of specific artists, that’s why it’s at number 4. The artists are Lana Del Ray and Girl in Red, both very popular artists in this genre, and I love their music. I don’t listen to any other bands in this style, so it’s at 4 because of that

3. Rock is at 3 for many reasons. The main one is that I enjoy listening to bands like The Beatles, AC/DC, Queen & The Cars. I don’t listen to new bands of rock because frankly, nothing compares to old rock bands.

2. Ok now at 2 we have Rap, and when I say rap I’m talking about Eminem. I haven’t really found any other artists in the rap genre that I like as much as Eminem, so I guess I just listen to a lot of Eminem.

1. And now, for the number 1 spot, we have the inevitable Pop, and it’s at this spot for numerous reasons. One is that it’s the genre I listen to the most, I usually like more pop songs than other genres and really that there are so many options to explore because its problaly the most popular style in the world

Listening to music is therapeutic for me, it takes the stress away instantly, and it helps me block out the world around me when it’s just to munch to handle. Serenity fills my brain as I push the start button on my playlist, and I feel as if I’m transported into a word full of lyrics and melodies. So to conclude, music helped me through lots of frustrating moments, and hopefully it can do the same for you!

Reflection

The process of creating this page was so exhilarating because it was a project where I was free  to share my biggest obsession with the rest of the world (or the people who looks at this blog)! We started with writing 2 little posts, then adding them into a page with a photo to tie the whole post together. I liked the way it turned out and I am very happy with the feedback I got from my peers. The hardest part of writing this page was making all the sections flow together with ease, and trust me, its harder than it looks, well at least for me. The easiest part of the page was the process of taking the photo. I took a photo of my Spotify playlist, and uploaded it. I really enjoy the blogging process, and I will continue talking about the various topics and ideas that randomly pop into my head.
