Nature and Ecosystem

Hello everyone, this is my science blog post.

Let’s begin with the very first keystone for this project. The food web. We created a a game in scratch. I personally drew each animal, and then described what each of those animals eat, and do. Iincluded 10 living things, and came up with realistic interactions between them. There was human impaction on the many animals here on the picture I’ll show below. My food web is illustrated the interconnectedness and interdependence of ecosystems.  The way these components interact is critical in an ecosystem. A food web consists of all the food chains in a single ecosystem. Each living thing in an ecosystem is part of multiple food chains. Each food chain is one possible path that energy and nutrientsmay take as they move through the ecosystem. All of the interconnected and overlapping food chains in an ecosystemmake up a food web. Here is a pictures of the keystone itself:

Next up, we had Ecosystem drawing. which wasn’t a keystone, but it was an activity to help us learn more about nature. In that activity, we learned about abiotic and biotic things. I made a drawing representing those things. In ecology, biotic and abiotic factors encompass all the living and non-living parts of an ecosystem. Biotic factors pertain to living organisms and their relationships. Abiotic factors are the non-living components of the ecosystem, including sunlight, water, temperature, wind, and nutrients. Ecologists use biotic and abiotic factors to predict population changes and ecological events.  By investigating how these factors interact, ecologists can gauge what is happening in an ecosystem over time. They may also be able to predict ecological events like species die-offs, over-population, changes in growth rates, and disease outbreaks. This is the representation of my food web:

The next keystone, keystone #2, was about creating a news report video. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to complete it.

Last keystone for this project, keystone #3, was creating 5 different social media posts for each of the 5 topics: the earth’s spheres, bioaccumulation/magnification, food webs, wildlife management, and nutrient cycles. me and my partner split up the work so we could finish it all faster. I’ll include into here the ones I did. The first one, bioaccumulation/magnification. Bioaccumulation is the gradual accumulation of substances, such as pesticides or other chemicals, in an organism. Bioaccumulation occurs when an organism absorbs a substance at a rate faster than that at which the substance is lost or eliminated by catabolism and excretion. Magnification is the process of enlarging the apparent size, not physical size, of something. This enlargement is quantified by a calculated number also called “magnification”. When this number is less than one, it refers to a reduction in size, sometimes called minification or de-magnification.
