Chemistry Coding

How can I show my understanding of particle movement? This was our first project in quarter 4. We coded a simulator or a game to show the kinetic molecular theory and the atomic theory.

When we started, we did a fun experiment with a water bottle and a eye dropper. You fill a bottle of water and put and eye dropper in. When you squeeze the water bottle the eye dropper sinks.

The goal of this project was to answer the driving question “how can the behaviour of matter be explained by the kinetic molecular theory and atomic theory?”. To do this we used scratch to code a game or simulator that shows the KMT and the atomic theory. We found cool ways to show particle movement.

Curricular Competencies:

Questioning and predicting: I showed the questioning and predicting skill by using all of the class give to work on coding my simulator. I helped and got help from my desk partner learning the coding system in scratch. By focusing on making my simulator I showed a sustained curiosity.

Scientific communication: I used the scientific communication skill by showing accurate particle movement in my simulator and have having historical models of atoms on the simulator. I also used this skill when doing the science quiz.

Reasoning and analyzing: I used the reasoning and analyzing skill by coding the simulator. I showed use of logic and patterns to learn how to code with scratch and make it interactive. I also used this skill when we learned the basics of algebra and how that tied into our coding.

Here is the link to try out my simulator:

Matter Simulator

I learned a lot about matter and its behaviour and a lot about coding. Even though I was very confused by how the coding worked at the start, I figured it out as I went. To answer the driving question, we can explain the behaviour of matter by making a game or simulator to communicate the idea across. Thanks for reading!

✌️bye.

It is not just what you ar learning and accomplishing that is amazing – it is your way of telling what went on during the process that is so great
