mPOL 2025

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.” — the pol declaration.

This year, instead of doing a learning plan, we did a VMV; vision, mission, and values. In my vision, I stated “I want to become a strong minded person who can work effectively both independently and in a team so I can be a productive person in my post secondary education and my future profession as a scientist.” As you can see, I created this with what I want to be in the future.

Communications and engagement are two of weakest skills that I have. In the rest of the year, and the years after, I really hope to be able to develop more of these two skills as they are very important skills to have in life and for achieving my vision. So far, my engagement skills have not really changed. The Socratic seminars we did in the Hiroshima project showed that.

Last year, I didn’t do so well at being a good team member. I’d usually leave all the hard work to the rest of my team while I did the stuff that didn’t require much. This year, I was able to show a lot of growth, especially in environmental science. We will do something in a team every once in a while, and I have contributed a lot more, as well as taking initiative for what we’re doing.

I think that I could go back and revisit my VMV every once in a while so that I can remind myself of the person I’m trying to become and what I need to be doing in order for me to reach that goal. If the vision, mission, or values change, I could change that in the VMV. However, I do wonder if this would be a good thing to do as changing things may lead to me not really getting anywhere.

My agency is something I’ve been working on all through last year and the year before, and I’ve finally started improving. There is significantly less more being handed in late. This skill has been developed a lot, but it could still use some more fine tuning.

One thing I want to start doing more is participating in extracurricular activities. Things that’ll look good in my resume and transcript, like joining the clubs at school. I know just having good grades won’t be good enough to get accepted into universities, especially with the grades I have now. Compared to everyone who will be applying to the universities I’m applying for, my grade will merely be average.
