Where The %#$! Is My Voice??

Wahhhhhhhhhhh!!! I am but a small Victorian child, fiending for the relief of the growing hunger in my stomach. I need to do something about this. I won’t be able to do this for much longer. Why must this world be blind to the sufferings of people, of children? Don’t they know that we are the future of this nation?? This can’t go on for any longer. Something needs to change. I need to find my Voice.


Welcome back to my blog. This project was called The Write Stuff. In this project, we were to find our voice in writing, with the driving question How do we develop our voice as writers?”

The biggest things we needed to learn about was the 6+1 traits: ideas, organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, conventions, and presentation. Through these 7 traits we learned about what a voice is and how to effectively use it in our writing.

Unfortunately, in the middle of the project, I was away for a choral festival, so I missed the class. The next day, we had a surprise quiz on something we were supposed to have read. As you’d expect, I absolutely bombed that quiz, getting a score of 2/8. From this, I learned that, even if I can’t go to tutorial to catch up, I should do it at home.

It’s also here that I found out that I’m really bad at taking tests. Maybe more than half of the questions on that test could’ve been answered correctly if I had just used context clues. I will definitely be keeping this in mind the next time we have another quiz. It’s below if you want to take a look.

 

The end product of this project was a writing piece that had to have shown our voice. Since we were free to choose any topic, I, of course, chose space. The style in which I chose to write in was a documentary script. I had fun writing this because I also got to do some research and learn more about celestial bodies and what happened at the start of the universe.

When all of our writing is complete, we had some of the PLP teachers come in and see if they can figure out which writing belongs to whom. It was called a test. It was super fun to see it happen and their thought process. Ms. McWilliam described my writing as “a combination of Brooke’s writing and Jupiter’s Personality.” I thought this was pretty interesting. The whole time, Brooke, Jupiter and I were looking at each other trying not to laugh. It made me realize where my voice in writing comes from. I like to go to Brooke sometimes for feedback on homework, and I spend a lot of time with Jupiter. I’m honestly surprised that most of the teachers didn’t get mine, because I thought it was kinda known that I was a big space nerd.

Overall though, this project a pretty fun, and I’m glad I got to learn more about space and the actual way to do a Zettelkasten. For those of you who don’t know, a Zettelkasten is a personal knowledge management system. It uses single idea notes that are tagged. It’s also described as “your second brain.” The Zettelkasten took a few tries but I got there eventually. I hope that, in future projects, we will do more of something like the test. Below will be the documentary script that I created.
