Videography

For this project, we had to make different videos, and we learned about goal setting. All of this was to answer our driving question, How might I use video skills to tell my story?

I think the answer to this is, you can tell a story through film in a variety of different ways, like having a beginning middle and end, and having dialogue and shots that tell pieces of a story. We started off the project with reading the start of a book called “What Do You Really Want”. The book is about learning how to set goals, and the stories of “goal getters” (people who completed their goals).

After this, we started on the first of three videos that we were going to make throughout the project. The first video we made was a video on what inspires us.

In this video, I talk about my dreams to be an author, and how I keep coming up with parts of stories in my head. In the second video, it was a silent video about a kid on a debate team.

The video is ment to look old, and has a black and white filter applied, with slide like subtitles. The point of the video is to show the use of different angles. Angles are used to show more or less of the shot, and can be used to show weakness or injury. This can be done by showing them from an above angle to show their lack of power, instead of showing it from straight on. After the second video, we learned about storyboards and S.M.A.R.T. Goals. S.M.A.R.T. Stands for, Specific (you need to have a precise goal in mind), Measured (it has to have a way for you to track your progress overtime), Actionable (it has to have an action you can take to achieve it) Realistic, (it has to be something you can reasonably do) and Timed (it has to have a deadline). For the final video, it had to be a tutorial video on how to set goals.

My group decided to do this while teaching people how to set goals to learn languages. We did this by giving tips and tricks for staying on track, and giving our knowledge about goal setting.

To end it off, I think that videos can be used to tell stories by showing different perspectives, and having a flow to the story. Any way, I’ll see you next time.
