The story of my growth as a learner

Hello!

In this post I will be talking about my answers to the driving questions,

How have I demonstrated my growth as a learner so far this year?

and, how can I sharpen my learning plan to ensure I will reach my learning targets by the end of this school year.

Firstly at the time I wrote my learning plan I was just getting into scimatics and I didn’t really know what is was. Because it wasn’t in elementary school, and a lot of subjects in high school are not in elementary school so there were a lot of new things for me. I guessed it was a combo of math and science and I thought “this is going to be a long class”, but when class was done I thought it was actually pretty fun. And it turned out later it was one of the better PLP classes in my opinion. Anyways here is a picture of my scimatics growth learning plan from closer to the start of the year.

I have really grown in that short amount of time. I now am way more intrigued about the class because we study a lot of interesting things like lasers and tectonic plates. I’ve grown by putting more time and the maximum amount of effort into my assignments because I find them fun. I am sad that we aren’t doing scimatics anymore because that was really fun.

Next I will talk about Maker.

Maker is the class that started me to like drawing again because there was a vibe that just said be creative. So I started to draw and bring out the more creative side of me. I also am wondering why there was a wooden dragon at the back of the class but I assumed it was for some sort of play. Here is a picture of my Maker growth learning plan from earlier in the year.

Now that I’m thinking I still don’t know what the difference in humanities and maker is, which is weird because I’ve been dong them the whole semester. My goal for all of the classes was to get extending in all of the classes but I haven’t reached my goal yet. I can in the future if I ever have these classes again. And I will strive toward that goal until I get there. And then I will change my goal and work toward the new goal after I have completed my first goal, and so on and so on. I can improve a lot of things like my communication to my peers and my personal awareness and responsibility. I can improve on communication to my peers by being open to meeting new people. And I can improve on my personal awareness and responsibility by putting everything in things (a checklist app where you can record what assignments you have due). At the start of the year I didn’t put anything in things and then halfway through the semester I started to use it a little bit. And now I almost put everything in it. But in the future i’m trying to use it more.

Finally there’s Humanities

Humanities is not my favourite class because it has the most work but the projects are still a lot of fun. I think if I did more of Humanities in the future I might like it more. I have really been shown what real work is in humanities and actually got to experience some next level real world work by making and advertisement for a real estate company. Which was one of the better projects because I love designing and drawing so it was right up my alley. I now know what real world work is and that made me grow to think not everything is easy and sometimes you have to struggle to get to success. And I’m willing to go through all the work to get to where I want to be in the future. Here is my growth column for humanities.

I have really improved with my focus through the semester. I got distracted so easily and usually procrastinated a lot (Which I still kind of do). But I have really improved that over the years and I’ve been learning the best strategies to focus. Which is, I tell myself  I’m going to do this work even though my friends are here, I can talk to them after but I have to finish this first. And even that strategy doesn’t work and I’ve found that to be the best strategy over the years, even better then moving me away from them.

Let’s talk about revisions next.

I am terrible with Showbie and basecamp notifications. I don’t know why but I am. I think its because I don’t really check my iPad on the weekends or when I don’t have homework. And I think I have a quiet ringer noise for Showbie notifications. I can hear everything else loud and clear but for some reason Showbie’s are different. I think the iPad set a different ringtone for it. Other then not checking my iPad I’m pretty good at revisions and I sometimes put more effort in revisions than the actual work to start off with. So revisions, I’m okay a them.

Finally we will talk about what I am most proud of.

I am most pound of my tectonic plates board game. In my opinion everything was good, from the 3D design, to the game itself was really creative and I think my group and I really pushes past our limited with that project. Here are some pictures of the making of the board.
