Hello and welcome back to my blog. This post is going to be about our latest scimatics project, chemistry stories. The driving question for this project was β€˜How do the electron arrangements of atoms determine the chemical and physical properties of elements and compounds?’. So I answered that by creating my animation which included everything needed. For this project the final product was an animation of 2 storyboards that we made on specific types on bonds. This is how my final animation turned out.

Milestone 1:

So like every scimatics project we started it off by creating a project start mind map. I filled my mind map up with tons of questions I had and then at the end of the project I answered them all. I accomplished this first milestone because my mind map included lots of questions and was handed in on time. I think that I could have added some of the answers right away but most of my questions I did not know the answer to. Here is how my final mind map turned out.

Milestone 4 & 5:

Milestone 4 were the actual storyboards. We needed one storyboard on 2 or more atoms creating and showing how ionic bonds are formed and another storyboard to show how covalent bonds are formed. I am happy with how my storyboards turned out because I spent lots of time on them. I also decided to connect both of the storyboards together to create 1 big story using and showing both ionic and covalent bonds. My covalent storyboard was missing a few atoms but I ended up just fixing that in the end animation, which brings me to milestone 5. Milestone 5 was the completed animation. This animation needed to include your story’s, along with voice over. In my voice over I narrated and also explained how the bonds worked in a more detailed way which I thing added a nice extra piece to my story. I am happy with the creativity that I put into this project specifically milestone 4 and 5. Here is how my original storyboards looked.

Curricular Competencies:

Communicating:

In my animation you can tell that my voice overs are clear and detailed. They are also in time with the rest of the story and explain the bonding processes. I think that I could have made my animation a little bit longer to give myself more time to explain the bonding processes. Other then that I think that my voice overs turned out great.

Processing and Analyzing:

My animation using correct Bohr models to show and explain the electron arrangement of ions and atoms. My animation shows how the atoms exchange electrons in the ionic bonding process and during the covalent bonding process. I am super proud of how my animation turned out.Β

Questioning and Predicting:

I used my class time very well and you can see this because I was ready to hand in my animation a whole week early. My time management skills were definitely a big part of this project because I planned out when I was going to do specific parts in class and out of class.Β

Overall my animation turned out better then expected and I am happy with the outcome. There was a little big of revising throughout this project but other then that I think I did well. This was a good last project for semester one and I will be back with more posts in semester two.
