Welcome to my very last mPol post! At the beginning of the year, we were tasked with creating a new version of our typical student βLearning Planβ. Instead, we formulated our own βVision, Mission, and Valuesβ (VMV) which is what I will be showcasing evidence of in this post.
What successes have you experienced this year in your learning? What steps did you take to ensure this success?
So far this year we have completed three projects, and although they have all had successes and setbacks, when it comes to accomplishing the goals I have set on my VMV I feel the most recent feminism project is the one to talk about. This project involved the usual research and learning of specific information but also had lots of communication, collaboration and agency involved. We were challenged to write an essay and interviewing someone to use as one of our sources. This definitely challenged the success behaviours that I set at the beginning of the year as I was able to successfully contact, communicate, and collaborate with the public. This was especially relevant through my search for an interviewee because of the amount of trial and error this took.Β
One of the steps I took to ensure the final product of this project would be a success was utilizing tutorial time to gain feedback and assistance on my work (ex. Planning interviews, script feedback, essay draft feedback). This ultimately shows how I was able to take accountability for my work and learning, despite all of the challenges that appeared along the way.Β
What is an example of a setback or difficulty, you have experienced this year in your learning? What did you learn from this experience?
As for the setback, although it turned out to be a success, our Horror Film project taught me a lot as there was lots of of trial and error. During this project, I felt I struggled to keep balance in such a diverse group who all had such good ideas. My role during this project was to be art director, meaning I was involved in many aspects of the project. This included my involvement in pre-production planning, the actual execution of the film, and post-production revisions and feedback. During this time I found that many of the team members ideas or contributions would be set aside. This ultimately taught me the importance of flexibility, but truly pushed me to grow both creatively and collaboratively as I recognized that not everything needs to work perfectly all the time, especially in a large group project.
Throughout this time I also felt I lost most of my work/life balance because of the amount of work and effort that went into ensuring its success. Therefore after filming I made it a priority to start applying what I had originally set in my VMV to gain that balance in my school life again.
Thanks for reading and or listening to this presentation of my learning!
