My fellow weekly post readers! Welcome to another one! You may be thinking, is this post going to update us on the podcasts? Another episode coming? Well, not yet, and for the next couple posts, you aren’t going to hear about the podcast much. That’s a surprise right?! It was a surprise to us too, when we heard we were putting the podcasts on hold. So what are we doing then? Let me welcome you to a live audio radio show, of Romeo and Juliet.

Audio radios show? Romeo and Juliet? Live??? Those were my initial thoughts when our teacher introduced the concept to us. I was really confused, I mean how is our dysfunctional class going to pull off a live radio show? We have never ever done this before! We have no experience! Ah, but wait, alas we do. Silly Malaika, have you forgotten about the countless live presentations at Destination Imagination? Have you forgotten about The Tempest? And even the Exhibitions! How could you!

During this entire process, I realized there’s no need to stress out because we’ve pulled this off before, without even knowing. I was on the Improv team at 4 Destination Imagination competitions, and we did 3 live skits that were made up on the spot, and the 4th presentation was live on zoom. How did we ever pull of a live skit with 5 other people in different houses on a single computer? Even I don’t know, but I do know that I’m very proud of us for accomplishing that. In grade 8, even though I wasn’t in it, I helped with the class as we acted out a live version of one of William Shakespeare’s plays, The Tempest. Sounds familiar? Thats what we are doing now, just doing it as a radio show, which actually makes it easier. So really there’s nothing to worry about, other than planning the entire thing that includes sound effects, technicals, writing the entire Romeo + Juliet script and getting an entire cast to play each role, see, no biggie!

Although everything may be “coming along smoothly” from an outsiders perspective, we are all franticly trying to get everything ready and prepared for the final day, which is in two days time.

The tech team which involves me, Anders, Noah,, Brenton, Angelo, and Rhiann, are mainly focused on the sound effects and music, which is actually coming together really well. I think if we had more time to practice, we’d practice just using the effects and music, and do a full read through with just us so we can figure out cues for the effects that may not be written in.

Its an interesting journey, which isn’t over yet, and I’m excited to write another huge blog post about it once we finish it, so stay tuned for that. If you haven’t listened to my latest podcast episode, which is more about what Romeo and Juliet is, take a listen down below!
