Over this past two months, my class has been learning about World War II (WWII). We did lots of projects such as writing an essay, writing notes using the smart brevity formatting, and community service!

For my community service assignment my friend Monica and I handed out poppies to customers in front of London drugs at Park Royal mall. Here is my section in the zine (small magazine) my class is making (scroll down to find my about the author page that further explains my act of service)

This zine also includes my essay that I wrote about the influence of World War II on the establishment of NATO and the UN. I wrote about this topic because I was the most interested in learning more about how those organizations worked and why they were established.

We learned about how it started and who was involved (which countries), but what role did the conflict of WWII play in shaping Canadian identity? Well, during the war, the world went through a lot of changes, power gain, power loss, extreme loss in gold, loss of land, or independence. However,  in Canada’s case, we became independent from the United Kingdom (UK). During WWII, the United States (US)  gave a lot of supplies and support and ended up with 70% of the worlds gold. With this gain in power, Canada shifted it’s relationship from the UK to the US during and after WWII. Not only did this happen, but Canada and the US also established NATO, an organization that would work to keep world peace and collective security. Canada would still be close with the UK as time goes on but is even closer with the US.
