Welcome to another blog post! For the past couple of weeks, I have been working on a project for Scimatics called the Ultimate design Challenge. The goal of this challenge is to come up with an object and create it on Tinkercad to optimise either maximum surface are or maximum volume. My driving question was, how can I make a pool with the maximum amount of volume.

I wanted my pool to have maximum volume because it needs to hold enough water to fill a 25 or 50 meter pool.

These are my calculations of the surface are and volume of the pool

The total surface area of my pool is 4,393,735.16cm2 and the total volume is 853,937,641cm3. Because you can’t really compare surface are and volume just by these numbers I found the ratio of volume to surface area, here it is, 194.35:1.

So in conclusion to my calculations, I achieved my goal in my driving question.

CURRICULAR COMPETENCIES

Applying and innovating: Contribute to care for self, others, community, and world through personal or collaborative approaches. I used all my class time efficiently to get my work done. I was able to give myself enough time to extend my calculations and presentation. I always stayed on task and I was able to hand all my work in before the due date.

Reasoning and Analyzing: Model mathematics in contextualized experiences. I created a 3D model of a pool using Tinkercad that incorporated more than 10 shapes. Each shape had correct equations and I was able to present my final project collaboratively with my partner.

Communicating and Representing: Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions. My pool had complet and correct surface area and volume equations for every shape. I also subtracted some of the sides and parts of shapes that were intersecting with others. All of my equations were shown effectively in my presentation.
