Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome back into my head. Yesterday in our lab we did a single replacement of a metal in a ionic compound. The compound was copper chloride and we replaced the copper with aluminum. We put 400 mL of CuCl2 and put a 10cm by 10cm aluminum foil cylinder into it. After the reaction we removed the large clumps of aluminum and copper and then let it settle for a minute. We then poured out the AlCl3 into a cup and cleaned the leftover copper with water. We were then supposed to fire it, but my group didn’t get to that part.
