Pedalheads Bike Camps (Spring Break)

Pedalheads-Logo-CroppedThis March Break we are looking for instructors as well as volunteers to help with our two camps located in Vancouver and North Vancouver

Dates and Times:
March 14-18 & March 21-24 (no camp on March 25)
9am – 4pm

Location: Brockton Preparatory School, 3467 Duval Road, North Vancouver

Qualifications and Information for Paid Instructors:
Students must be turning 17 by December 31st, 2016
Hold or be willing to hold a first aid certificate (Standard First Aid)
Reference checks where applicable
Have their own bike (being an expert not necessary!)
Must be available for both March Break weeks
Wage ranges between $10.45 – $12.50 based on education and experience
ALL STUDENTS that apply to become instructors will be invited to our office for a group style interview!

Child and Family Research Institute Open House!

 The Child and Family Research Institute’s Research Open House is an interactive morning event that offers high school students in Grade 10-12 an opportunity to visit research labs, interact with research trainees and participate in research activities.

The next open House is scheduled on Monday, March 7, 2016, from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Child and Family Research Institute – 938 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver.

** Students must be nominated by a teacher (see Ms Parmar or your science teacher)

Space is limited; each school has only 5 spots.

Be a Gene Researcher for a Week in 2016!

The Canadian Gene Cure Foundation is looking for mature, capable high school (Grade 11 & 12 students.
You must be:

  • passionate about science and intrigued by genetics
  • have an overall average of at least 85%
  • can write a brilliant essay to demonstrate your excitement about science and your advanced communication skills
  • can convince a teacher to write a stunning reference for you

The Gene Researcher for a Week (GRFAW) program is your opportunity to gain insight into the world of genetic diseases through a mentorship in one of Canada’s top genetic labs. This program is designed to provide a learning experience for students that have not had extensive lab experience from other programs or work experience opportunities.
Participants can learn how genes cause human genetic disorders and how top scientists translate these findings into treatments and cures for genetic diseases.
In this program you will participate in the activities in the lab with as much hands on experience as possible*. The GRFAW mentoring program is a great opportunity for YOU to learn about human genetics research and connect with the scientific community.

ACE-IT PIPE FITTING FOUNDATIONS

Have you thought about a career as a pipe fitter, steam fitter or plumber?  If you are in Grade 10 or 11 you might consider this for next year.  NVSD is working with Kwantlan Polytechnic University to allow you to learn this trade while attending school.  All costs are paid for and you can get your first year of the program completed!  If this interests you, please see Mr. Clancy or Ms Parmar for more information !

The Animators Workshop offers a behind-the-scenes look inside VFS Animation programs, with teaching presentations that showcase visual effects and animation rigging, plus a Z-Brush demonstration.
Potential students will have an opportunity to see the industry’s finest animation instructors (with credits ranging from Guardians of the Galaxy and Harry Potter to Iron Man 3 and more) in action and up close, including:

Volunteer Opportunities for Christmas Gift Wrap!

North Shore Community Resources will once again be offering gift wrap services at Capilano Mall. This event, sponsored by Bentall Kennedy, is a fundraiser to support the programs offered at our agency. Volunteers help make it happen!
The Gift Wrap Booth will be open during mall hours starting on December 4th and will be located in the main mall area. Volunteers must complete a training session on either Tuesday, November 24, or Wednesday, November 25. If you are interested in volunteering please see Ms. Parmar

We are looking for part time kitchen staff to work 1 – 2 shifts a week in our independently owned, licensed coffee house in Deep Cove, North Vancouver.
If you love good food and coffee, if you are detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast paced environment, we are looking for you.

Café Orso is a European style coffee shop offering made to order food alongside 49th Parallel coffee, beer and wine. Our goal is to be a comfortable and welcoming place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy exceptional coffee, locally sourced food and drink in the beautiful natural setting of Deep Cove.
Café hours are 7:30am – 5:00pm, 7 days a week.

Job Requirements:
 Experience working in a café, retail store or customer service position
 Some training is provided but experience as a line cook or in other food preparation would be a real asset!
 18 years or older
 Excellent customer service skills
 Ability to work in a fast paced environment
 Willing to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings and weekends
 Have or be willing to obtain Food Safe certificate.
 Serving It Right certificate is an asset

Duties will include food preparation and presentation, keeping a clean and safe kitchen work area and assisting in opening and closing duties, including end of day clean-up.
Pay will be based on level of experience.
