Discovery Days in Health Sciences

At TD Discovery Days in Health Science students explore a variety of careers in medicine and the health sciences, interacting with researchers, clinicians and educators in their real-life work setting.
Schedule – This full day event is scheduled for December 1, 2015. The day is comprised of a dynamic keynote lecture, hands-on workshops and a career panel discussion.

Mt. Seymour Practicum Program

Grade 10 – 12
If you love to ski and want to turn your passion into a profession then this is the program for you! Certification by the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance and is recognized by the BC Ministry of Education, which awards External Sports Credits for CSIA Level 1. The objective of the Instructor Practicum is to offer local students an opportunity to learn about the ski industry, gain an internationally recognized, professional certification, earn credit for High School graduation and build valuable work and volunteer experience.
 
To date Mt Seymour has had 28 students participate in this program. 23 completed their CSIA Level 1 certification and all gained many hours of teaching experience, training and an understanding of the ski industry. A number of these students have gone on to join the instructor team.
 
In 2015-2016 Mt Seymour will accept up to 16 Students. Students must commit to 100 hours of volunteer instructing and there is a cost of $50 for the CSIA manual and course materials. Students receive a Mt Seymour staff season pass, preparatory training for the CSIA 1 course, the CSIA Level 1 course and 100 hours of work experience in a ski school. Standard cost for the CSIA Level 1 course is $399 but Mt Seymour covers everything but the course materials.

 Junior Achievement’s Company Program is the ultimate training ground for young entrepreneurs in grades 10 -12. Work with other students and your business advisory team to learn about running a businessfrom forming a company to developing marketing campaigns to deciding how to distribute dividends. You will have the opportunity to try it all as the group plans, organizes and operates its own small business!
This program will be located at TD Canada Trust, 1400 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver and is now open for registration:
Company Program North Shore – Thursdays
Location: Meet at TD Canada Trust’s main entrance the first week. Dates: Starting October 15, 2015 and running to March 3, 2016.
Day/Time: Weekly meetings on Thursdays, 5:00pm – 7:00pm. Time off during Winter Break Dec. 24 – 31..

Biotechnology Career Awareness Program (BCIT)

An opportunity for a student to do scientific research in the area of Biotechnology and explore careers in this area.

Once again BCIT is offering their BioTechnology Career Awareness Program in December or April for students in grade 11 or grade 12.  If you are enthusiastic about scientific research, lab work and our interested about careers related to biotechnology. The program will provide bus transportation (when applicable) between the laboratory and the industry site.

Learn how new tools, technologies and programs promote health and well-being across the life course: in adolescence, women, pregnancy, infancy and childhood. Vancouver Opera

Vancouver Opera

The Work Experience program at Vancouver Opera allows students in Grades 11 and 12 to get a backstage view of what goes into an opera production. This immersive experience provides students the opportunity to meet and work alongside professional artists and administrators throughout the final stages of producing a show for the main stage. There is still placement available in Madama Butterfly and Evita production.

Lynn Canyon Ecology Fresh Air Learning Program!

Are you interested in working with elementary or preschool-age children?

This opportunity is ideal for students who’d like to get experience working with children outdoors and who are considering

Education, Child care, or Biology/Ecology.  

You would be working with experienced teachers and children 3-10 years of age, depending on which program you choose.
The programs run Monday-Thursday.
Training sessions this fall are on September 22nd and 23rd, 3:30-6:00 pm. Volunteers only need to attend one session.
