Friends of the Library Book Sale

Join us for another Friends of the Library BIG BOOK SALE. 

This event requires many volunteers to help set up, manage the cash table, re-stock books and clean up.  There will be 10 free items per volunteer for EVERY 2 hour shift worked, improved advertising  and valuable volunteer hours for our student friends.

Sunday, February 17 | 12:00pm – 6:00pm sale and take down
On Sunday, everything is 1/2 price from 12:30pm-4:00pm.

All proceeds from the sale go toward enhancing the Library through projects funded by the Friends.

NAV’s Explore Aviation Summer Camp

Are you a teen who has what it takes to leave ordinary behind? If you do, then NAV CANADA’s Explore Aviation Summer Camp is made for you!

This summer, 24 young women and 24 young men entering Grade 10 high school (or secondary 4 in Quebec) from across Canada will gather in Cornwall, Ontario. Their mission: one week of learning, fun and friendship with a focus on aviation. This all-expenses-paid camp uses hands-on learning to give you the chance to explore exciting careers that will empower you to soar to success after graduation! ​

Who can apply: Teens going into Grade​​ 10 or secondary 4 in September 2019

​Where: NAV CENTRE, Cornwall, ON, with day trips to Montreal and Ottawa

​When: ​Young women: July 14-19, 2019
Young men:​ August 11-16, 2019

Cost: No cost to you! It’s paid for by a NAV CANADA bursary, which includes flight, room and board for the week

 Why: ​To inspire you to explore a career in aviation

HOW TO APPLY

Participants will be chosen from across Canada by a NAV CANADA committee made up of aviation professionals.

Please note, your application must include:

  • A completed application form
  • An essay explaining why you want to attend Explore Aviation Summer Camp (350 to 500 words)
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher or community leader

The application period closes on March 8, 2019. If you have been selected, we’ll email you during the week of April 8, 2019 to confirm your spot.​

Hunter Dickinson Inc, Work Experience Positions, Spring Break, March 18-22, 2019

Hunter Dickinson is a mineral exploration and mining company with head office in Vancouver that explores for, develops and mines a variety of minerals around the world.

In their downtown Vancouver office there are three, 1-week long postings (March 18-22):

  • 1 student in Reception
  • 1 student in Resource & Database
  • 1 student in Risk and Compliance

As well as 1, 2-day long posting (March 18-19):

  • 1 student in Tax Accounting.

These are excellent opportunities for students interested in the minerals industry and who wish to gain experience in a major Canadian corporation employing a diverse and highly skilled and professional workforce with projects around the world.

3PointBasketball/After school Program Volunteers

 

 

The after-school primary aged basketball program is offered in ten schools throughout the North Shore from 3:15 – 5:00 pm between April 3 – mid June. We are actively looking to recruit volunteers (Gr. 9 – Gr. 11).

Our volunteer coaches must possess an excellent attitude towards working with children, and have a basic understanding of the sport. Many of our paid coaches first started as volunteers.

Two $250 Community Spirit 3PB Volunteer Award will be awarded to Volunteers who go above and beyond in their role.
