Teachers spend their days helping others learn, so what happens when it’s their turn to be the student? That’s the idea behind our Teach a Teacher project.

Just like I am right now, I am using the toggle shortcode to enhance my blog with interactive elements like this. I feel that this enhances my blog as well by not having blocks of writing and instead having a nice looking header when clicked it expands on the point.

Another Tab
How you store your information can be a really important and effective way to enhance your learning posts. Mainly because it is appealing to look at and it is also practical.
Right now I am using the tabs shortcode to show you an example of how to use it but imagine how you could use this in a real post! I would be able to talk about similar subjects but still adding different points.
This is another tab for my example of how cool this is.
  • This is another way I can enhance my learners portfolio because it relates to the two topics I have already talked about. (Press the arrow)
  • I talked about using new tools just like I am now with this slider that I have never used before.
  • And I also talked about how you should store information and I feel that this is a really good way to store information that isn’t a block of writing.

I wanted to talk about these points because one of my goals from my VMV last year, which I still want to continue working on, was to use my feedback and apply what I am currently learning to my future work. My teacher has encouraged me to take the new skills I have been developing and put them into practice in my projects. I have been doing this by using the new features I have learned, such as icons, tabs, and sliders, and adding them to my blog now.

Teaching My Teacher 👩‍🏫 

This project was all about teaching our teacher a feature that they can add to their blog. I decided to teach Mr. Harris how to use shortcodes, shortcodes are the way that I did the toggles and the tabs above. There are many different kinds of shortcodes that you are able to use, so I mainly focused on how to access them and what to do to update and add them into a post. 

We were told to write a pages document or make some sort of tutorial to show Mr. Harris and follow along with while I talk him through how to add the shortcodes as well. I chose to make a document that would include photos and videos along with a short and simple description. I would have to really dumb it down for the reader to understand and start all the way from turning on your iPad (okay maybe not that simple).

Reflection 🪞:

I feel after my conference that I had done pretty well, with completing everything I was supposed to do (which was pretty simple criteria). I also went first and so I had no idea what to expect, honestly I don’t think it was that difficult to teach him how to the shortcodes and I had my document along with me to help guide me along as well.

Overall I think that I did what was asked and maybe even more, I added what I taught to my own blog (up above) as well. I feel that I will add things like shortcodes to my learning portfolio posts in the future as they make them look better and are simple to use.
