My mPol – 2022

Hello, welcome back or to my blog! This is my mPol presentation, if you don’t know what it stands for, it stands for Mid-Term Presentation of Learning. For the next 7 minutes I will be talking about most of the things I learned this year, learning opportunities, and things I did well in. The subjects I will be talking about are: Humanities, Maker or DI, and Scimatics. If you don’t know what these subjects mean that’s because they aren’t the usual subjects, I will explain what they mean.

Humanities is combined with English and Social studies, Maker is ADST (Applied Design, Skills and Technology), and Scimatics is Science and Mathematics combined. I didn’t talk about DI (Destination Imagination) so I will explain it to you, it is a program that everyone in PLP does, it normally takes over the Maker blocks. In the program everyone gets into groups, depending on what you like, I chose the technology group (Daring escape). You then have to create things to solve something, it really depends on what group you chose. Then we have to present it, we are also going competing against other schools. I will explain more on a DI post that I will upload soon.

~Humanities~

(Like I said before, Humanities is combined with English and Social studies.)

Our first project we had for Humanities this year was Medium is the Message, My Advertisement Journey. The driving question was: “How does what we hear, read, and see influence us?” In this project we needed to make an advertisement for a company with a group the teachers put us in. We even had to have an interview the business and everything! In this project I learned what critique is and how to give it to someone, remember it always has to be kind, helpful, and specific! I liked this project because it was the best to get comfortable with the real world because we would have so many projects with it.

I few things I could work on with this project was putting too much pressure on myself, I have tried to overcome this but it’s still something I have trouble with. I also could have been more open to talking to the business too, I have to get better at communicating more.

I had some things I did well on too, I was good at giving critique when they needed and I was good at sharing ideas even though I should do it more often.

Our finished advertisement:

Our second project in humanities was The Outsiders. The driving question was: “What can the Outsiders teach us about worldview?” For this project we read the book “The Outsiders” by: S.E. Hinton in class and sometimes outside of school. We learned about the seven different elements of worldview, they are: Geography, Time, Beliefs, Society, Values, Economy, and Knowledge. At the end we did an exhibition and showed off a tableau with our group.

During this project I could have worked on a few things, like making sure my group on the same page, actually telling my ideas, and making sure that everyone is helping out.

I was good at managing what we were doing even though sometimes it got really difficult. I was also good at the hands on parts but sometimes I had to revise what I made.

Here is a photo of my finished tableau with my group:

~Maker~

(Maker is ADST)

Our first Maker project was Becoming a PLP learner. Our driving question for this project was: “How could I build and strengthen the PLP learning team?” In this project we made a User Manual, Team Contract, Big Life Journal and My Physical Representation. In this project we  did lots of things to show who we are. Then we had an exhibition, in the exhibition we showed our keynote presentations and showed ours and other parents what we made.

I few things I could work on in this project was putting less pressure on myself. I also tend to be bad at managing my time, I use an app called Things but maybe in the future I could find another one to help with this.

I was proud of how well I was presenting because it is very difficult for me. One of the reasons why I joined PLP was because I wanted to improve on presenting.

Here is my Memoji laptop, we also had to make this:

Our second project was Power of a Pencil and Interesting Images. In this project we did drawings and took photos. I liked theses projects because it let me take on the creative side of myself and made me learn more about perspective. In Power of a Pencil in the end we made a logo. I am super proud of how mine turned out. In Interesting images we made a gif at the end, I am also super proud how that turned out too.

In the future I could work more one managing my time and making sure I don’t put too much pressure on myself.

I am super proud of the work I did and I can’t wait for more projects like this one. I also was super happy I learned how to make a gif, I will make so many now!

~Scimatics~

(Science and Mathematics combined)

Our first project we did was to make a bored game using 10 key science concepts, my board game was called Evidence Islands. The driving question was: “How are thematic and mathematical elements used in game design?” I liked this project and I am super proud of how it turned out. It ended up being super fun to play too!

in this project I could have worked on staying more focused and making sure my partner and I didn’t get distracted.

I was really good at helping along the way and making sure that we got the things done that we focused to do. I am, again, really happy with the end result.

Here is my board game:

Our second project in Scimatics was Laser Laws. In this project we were assigned to build and display a laser triangle that tested both the Pythagorean theorem and the law of reflection. Doing this project was fun, my teammates and I worked really hard on our display and we were very proud of our end result.

I could work on asking for help more often. I was struggling with is project because I was never taught about light before so I went in this project blind and it was my weak spot. In the future I could even watch YouTube videos if I need help.

I did well on handing my work in on time and putting lots of effort into them. I am very proud of how my work turned out.

Here is my laser display:

Sadly that is the end of my mPol presentation, I had fun looking back on what I did and I can’t wait for my new projects! Thank you for listening!
