This year was a lot. It was my first year in high school. My first year in PLP.

I learned a lot. And as it is in PLP with great learning comes great reflection. That is what this blog post is about.

First off, imma make a list of the projects that I did over the course of the year, with linked blogs. The ones without links either dont have a blog made yet, or just dont have a blog post.

From all of these projects there is at least one thing that stood out. Either I learned something, or I FAILed (first attempt in learning) or I had some reason to really like that project. Ill add that to the end of each summary. Enjoy.

Medium is the message

The first class I ever had in high school was in this project. It was about making an ad for a local company, and I did pretty good in this project. I worked with my team well, and liked the final product came out.

Becoming a PLP learner

I really got to know what to expect in PLP, how the people were, and what I was getting myself into. We had a mini exhibition, which really introduced me to what the next exhibitions would be like, and how to work with people in such a setting.

Fractions of your time

In this project I got a feel for how I could relate math to the real world. I learned about myself, by seeing how long I was on screens everyday too. This was when we were new to the iPad systems, so a lot of time was spent getting accustomed to the new system

Creative constructive communications

This one really helped move my skills in photography and drawing, although it wasn’t much of a project, it helped me a lot later in the year in comic cells, and new beginnings. It was short, but the effect filters were tons of fun.

The outsiders

Our fist book study. I liked how the pacing of our classes follow the pacing of the book, and we could explore literature. Tableus would also be used in many other projects and occasions, even in the 2022 spring exhibition!

Tectonic chances

This project helped me learn to collaborate with people I didn’t know, or would have gotten to know. My partner and I used our different skill sets and knowledges to create something that I am very proud of.

Laser laws

This project took lots of precision and time to create something nice with. My groups final project was very precisely calculated, and we used our skill set to our advantages making everyone do what they were best at.

Geek out blog challenge

This project helped me deepen my understanding of how to make my writing interesting and nice to read. It helped me on future blog posts tremendously.

Working with words

This is the only poetry based project we had, and it seemed a lot like art. The way which we put together our words, made it seem less like literature and more like art. It also had the aspect if performing before an audience, which i always like.

DI

Destination Imagination (DI) is by far the longest and hardest of all these projects. It involved many creative skills, planning skills, teamwork skills. It was a test of many abilities. I found it to be something that I learned from only after I had finished, and reflected on it. It was never really a focus, but always in the background. That is why I think it was such a struggle, and such a great learning experience.

Renaissance a change engine

This was my favourite project. I loved the creative power I had, and the topic that we were assigned to just made it better. The renaissance was all about the arts, and the final product I had for it was nothing short of art. 🤌🤌

Chemistry coding

I thought I’d be good at coding. I guess not. This project was one that I think I definitely could have done much better at, but I simply did not put in the effort. I had trouble learning how to use the app, and my frustration with the app made me unmotivated thus giving me the bad product that I got.

Argh matey

This project is another one of my favourites. It had the art and history that the renaissance project had, and I had a lot of fun with it. I love storytelling, and when a good story fits under the criteria then greatness happens. The one reason that it doesn’t beat the renaissance project is that I found the drawings much harder, and I was slower.

Ultimate design challenge

This is the project that I struggled with the most. It is similar to chenistry coding in that the software was hard to use, but this time the math was super hard too. And we have to make a presentation explaining it all! Tinker cad is something that is made for the computer, and trying to use it on your iPad = frustration. Frustration = no motivation. No motivation = procrastination. procrastination = bad work.

Comic cells – scimatics

Coming from two of the worse projects, we get to something nice for once. In this project there was no math, only science. AND it was about bacteria and viruses. AAAAND, it was art based. That about sums it up. I liked this project.

New beginnings

This project is one where I FAILed (first attempt in learning)

I could’ve just used photos from online, or maybe traced them, but NO. I had to spend hours, just to draw something that could’ve taken way shorter. not time spent well. I did like drawing it though.

Well, that’s 15 projects summed up for y’a. A whole years worth.

This was pretty fun to make, and I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed making it.

Goodbye grade 8
