POL declaration 👨‍👩‍👦

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.”

I am sad to say, that I’m closing off my grade 10 year. With this, and in typical PLP fashion, it’s time for reflection. I have been in 3 PLP classes throughout this year, and I have learned a lot. We’ve explored Canadian history and WWI and WWII In Humanities. We’ve delved into the world of marketing and finances with our PGP Careers class. We’ve even become podcasters in the last term of our Maker class. Let’s see what my learning plans were for these classes.

Maker

I looked to achieve an Extending grade level in Maker this year. I hoped to stay on top of my work and make as many revisions as possible.

A big part of our adventures in Maker this year was at our Disney World field school. We prepared 5 separate TikTok videos to film at Disney World in Orlando Florida. After about a month of brainstorming, and storyboarding, we filmed some of the funniest schoolwork content I’ve ever seen.

I’m A TikToker Now

This project was difficult at first, but it really made us prepare exactly what we were going to do, at the shoot. Because of the fast pace of the trip, there was no room for error. We needed to be fast and efficient with our shots.

As of today, I’m seeing a 🌈/ 95 in Maker, above where I wanted to be (at a 90). To get here, I worked on planning as much of my TikToks as I could and being flexible to react to any shooting issues. I also took revisions, and critique on my videos which ensures the best content I can make.

I’m happy with my performance in Maker this year, and I loved the projects we got to do this year.

Humanities

I looked to achieve an Accomplished grade level in Humanities this year. I worked to be helpful and involved with any group I was put in, and to keep track of due dates.

On the same Disney trip, we filmed a documentary on the magic of Disney Entertainment. This sounds like a broad topic, but we looked into things like Disney’s nighttime spectaculars, revolutionary movie-making technology, and immersive theme parks.

Disney Adventure

This project was less fun, than our simultaneous maker project, so I think the whole class had kind of a rough start. We quickly picked up, however, and then there was no stopping us. once we discovered how interesting some of these things were, we continued to do copious amounts of research. Our film didn’t turn out great, but It (along with many other projects) is what put my Humanities grade at a 🌈/ 90. I’m happy with this grade, and It’s higher than I set out for. I learned a lot about filmmaking and research techniques through this project. These skills have already helped me this year and will improve my schoolwork going forwards.

PGP

I looked to achieve an Accomplished grade level in PGP this year. I looked to work with the teacher to make revisions and stay on top of assignments.

We’ve recently worked on managing our finances and personal branding in PGP. We’ve worked with budgeting programs and researched Universities and career paths. Recently, we’ve also worked on our marketing skills to brand ourselves and our podcasts. We made business cards to present at our 2023 Summer Exhibition.

Finances and Exhibition

This project pushed us with many revisions and tricky stock management. I learned a lot about how we can market ourselves on a business card, which I’ve never really thought about. We also got to look into and participate in a stock market simulation, which I’ve also never dealt with. I’m currently at a 🌈/ 90 in PGP, which is above where I aimed, and I think reflects the skills I learned and the marketing tools, I’ve gathered.

Thank you for reading/listening to my tPOL blog post, and I hope you have a great rest of your day!
