Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.
Reflecting on My Growth

This year has been a big one for me, I’ve had a few challenges, some of which I only recently started to overcome, but nonetheless, I have. I’ve grown a lot too! In every aspect of the word, I think have matured more since last year, as well as getting an even better grasp on PLP I’ve pushed myself to try some new things, like rugby, even though it was a bit daunting, I’m really glad I joined. Looking back at my Vision, Mission, and Values (VMV), I can see I wanted to be active in class, engaging with my peers and teachers. Since then, I have been trying to speak up a little more in class. The best example would be from swipe right for tragedy, where I volunteered for many of the acting roles as we read the play.
2. Strengths & Successes
Swipe Right for Tragedy was one of my favorite projects this year because it let me combine creativity and humor while modernizing Romeo and Juliet. I worked hard on making sure my part of the script was both ridiculous and still comprehensible, and I think our final product really captured the over-the-top drama of the original play. It was so cool seeing the whole class come together for one big final project. If I could redo it, I would probably ask for a rehearsal or two. Other than that, this was one of the projects I feel I did best in.For our joint humanities and maker project, I made a podcast talking about why the world needs more Canada. I found myself really enjoying learning new editing techniques, exploring GarageBand, which meant making our own music.
Destination Imagination also happened again this year, except now I’m one of the older, more responsible kids in a team. That became more apparent, as well as my growth since the last DI, as I naturally started to help lead my group and make sure everyone was organized and on track. At times it was difficult, like during the first tournament, where my teammates and I weren’t as prepared as we should have been, to say the least.
3. Challenges & Areas for Growth
One of my biggest challenges this year has been keeping track of deadlines and remembering important dates. There have been times when I simply forgot an assignment was due, which meant I either had to rush to finish it or ended up handing it in late.
A good example of this was my podcast script—I had made solid progress, but I lost track of when it was due, so I didn’t submit it on time. If I had stayed on top of the deadline, I could have received feedback earlier and improved my work.
To improve, I’ve tried using an agenda to keep track of my assignments, but I haven’t been as consistent with it as I need to be. Moving forward, I want to get into the habit of checking showbie consistently and writing down what needs to be done, and making it part of my routine. I also plan to set more reminders for myself, whether that’s through my phone or just writing things down where I’ll see them.
Despite my challenges with deadlines, I feel that I’ve made significant progress in terms of my mindset and success behaviors. One area I’ve improved in is taking ownership of my learning. I’ve learned to recognize when I need help or when I’ve made a mistake, which has helped me become more proactive. For example, during my Destination Imagination project, I initially tried to do too much on my own and ended up overwhelmed. But I learned from that experience and started asking my group for help when I needed it. This shift in mindset not only improved the final product but also made the process much smoother and more collaborative.
Another area where I’ve seen growth is in balancing academics with personal life. While there were some bumps along the way, I’ve been able to maintain a healthy balance between school, social activities, and fitness. I’ve found that setting clear boundaries and making time for activities outside of school helps me stay focused when I need to be productive, and it prevents burnout. I’ve even managed to keep up with my rowing academy, which has been a great outlet for me.
5. Goals for the Rest of the Year
By the end of the year I want to continue forwards with my goal of managing dates better, because even though I’ve improved, I’m not where I want to be. Moving forward I’m going to do the same thing that’s been working for me the past month and a bit. Checking showbie regularly, and setting timers and goals for my work.
