Mpols, AGAIN!!

“Thank you for coming to my presentation of learning. I am the expert on my own learning. I am also responsible and accountable for my own learning. You can expect me to give an honest evaluation of my progress. We will discuss my strengths and opportunities for growth. Thank you in advance for listening and for offering feedback that I can use to improve as a learner.

Over the last year I have learnt a lot but I think that theses are the key moments that I felt I learnt the most.

I’ll begin by talking about Loon Lake, in November our grade went on a field study to Loon Lake Maple Ridge. While we were there we focused on team building exercises as well as communication exercises. One of the team building exercises was Trust-falling, which was pretty sketchy to me because I have never really done anything like this before, or at least not at this height. On the day we did the trust falls we did some warm up exercises to begin like regular trust falls with each other and falling farther and farther each time, when we set up the table and chair I was exited and was feeling bold so I decided to go first, I thought that it wouldn’t be as scary because I had already done the smaller trust falls but when I got up there, boy I definitely was scared, I looked at the roof and probably for the first time I was able to touch it, I looked back at my peers and they all looked ready but I wasnt, with one deep breath and a very hard convincing that my classmates will catch me I leaned backward and fell right into their arms. Once I was put back onto the floor I was relived that none of my bones were sticking out or that I wasn’t unconscious, I really felt like I could trust my peers much more after this exercise, for a while I thought that we were all sceptical about each other and were all stuck in our own little groups.

Another project that I felt I learnt a lot was for the winter exhibition we learnt about revolution in this project while also making a Rube Goldberg machine all at once. When I first saw what revolution I got I was a little disappointed because it wasnt one of my top 3 but I still was interested in learning about the Meiji revolution, this whole project was based around our interpretation of how we saw these revolutions and what drove them, while working on this I learnt many interesting facts about this revolution and was able to use all this information for our Rube Goldberg Machine, we had a group of 7 people and we all made a connection that well represented an important part of the Meiji revolution, as we began to build our machine we had lots of issues connecting out individual machines to make a really big one, and with lots of changes and improvements we were finally able to get them to work. Unfortunately I was not at the actual exhibition but I heard it was one of the only 3 or 4 that actually worked in full which I was really surprised by since it failed sooooooooooo many times in practice. I learnt that with good organization and proper shared responsibility a group of people can achieve anything, even as crazy as turning on a lamp with a crazy machin which is also supposed to represent a foreign country’s revolution. Even though I wasnt there I still think that this was a really important project from this year since I think that I improved a lot over those months, by the time I had to leave we had already had a successful run through for the full machine and I felt that throughout the entire project I was using different techniques to improve the machine and improve how it can relate to the revolution.
