Cold War Fear Learning Intention

My animated explainer was based around the impact from the letter the Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard sent to President Roosevelt concerning German scientists who might be able to use fission to create a bomb. The letter was written because of the level of importance that splitting an atom is, the fear of enemies harnessing atomic power before the United States. This letter planted the seed to the nuclear age. My animated explainer reflects how this letter kickstarted the Manhattan project and the invention of the first atomic bomb. Considering how important this process was it seems important to expand our learning on this topic. Since a lot of my notes tie into this next fallout project I want to use my last knowledge towards this next project. My new project will reflect more about the fear of nuclear arms race and its global consequences. I would like to expand on the idea of how fresh the science was for these bombs and how scientists feared the idea of using this science as a weapon since it has the power to destroy the entire earth. The race from other countries to create a nuclear bomb not only shows the difference in wartime capabilities between nuclear and conventional warheads but it also sets a new bar for future military weaponry. My goal for this project is to fully grasp the concept of how nuclear science played into the cold war, considering there is a lot of information I learnt in our past project that is left out from my animated explainer I feel like I have a lot more to tell through a short podcast and since this is a more self directed project I would like to focus on the space race that was started by the USSR through intercontinental missiles. I am excited to explore parts of my learning that I feel we’re more important to the Cold War and connect them to my Zettelkasten notes. Knowing that this project is an expansion of our last it makes me wonder how I can reflect from my past animated explainer and improve my self directed learning skills because most of our work comes from our own understanding and research.
