Over the past few weeks in our BCFP class we have been focusing on truth and reconciliation and what that really means, part of this process included taking notes and watching videos.
We began by watching individual videos about people directly affected by residential schools , these videos really humanized the history of the indigenous people and gave a new perspective on just how much indigenous people went through in their history. Later in the project we were assigned to create a Semantic Map, this was baisically a big web of connected topics and ideas surrounding the idea of Residential Schools. This was hard for me since I usually don’t connect my work like this and when I do it’s usually messy but using my past notes and knowledge on these topics it was easier to take it one step at a time to creat this Map. This was a good way for me to put all of my understandings into one spot since I have lots of scattered notes and keeping it brief helped me understand it much more. Our next assignment was a response Essay, for the most part this wasn’t too hard since I am usually good writer but this was difficult since there was so much to consider. I worked on this for a weekend keeping in mind that it was our final piece of evidence and I like this new way of assignments in PLP since it lets us express our thinking more. Knowing that our learning will continue in this project I am excited to expand on my learning in this topic.
